Does anyone think we missed a trick 16:17 - Feb 3 with 2001 viewsCrockerITFC

That signing Kieffer Moore as our 3rd striker at the start of the season would've offered us an out ball for going long when we needed to dig in during the tough games?

Thinking about it (with the benefit of hindsight) I feel we might've been naive about our prospects of being able to thrive by playing out from the back in the Prem without Hladky. In tougher games and with goalies low on confidence we tend to go longer more, but without an out and out target man, the ball tends to come straight back at us inviting pressure. At the time I didn't think he was good enough but thinking about it it feels like he would've been exactly what we needed to give us something different at a 3rd option. Also he knew the players and seemed to gel well with the team.

You could argue that Jackson may have been better to keep around and Ali loaned out, even though Jackson wouldn't have been good enough, he has an experienced edge and can play more than one role in a squad. Moore would have been ideal now looking back, but I guess Ashton was hoping for better.

I was gutted when we didn't sign Moore.

Also gutted , albeit slightly less, that we didn't sign Magic Man

I do agree with you, he made a big impact last year.

But I am also concerned about the lack of game time (a fit) for Hirst as it stands.

Not sure why KM is reluctant to do the triple changes on 60 minutes that we have been so used to. Always seem a tad delayed.

A player not really mobile enough for the way we played in the Championship and who has not shown anything at PL level previously was never the answer for that role this season.

Absolutely not.

The ideal signing this time last year but we were absolutely right not to sign him again in the summer.

Didn't want him then but I'd take him now. Just to cause a bit of chaos in the box late in games. We don't score many scrappy goals from knock downs, probably because we don't put many crosses into the box, which is a surprise considering how much of a handful Delap is.

Not bringing in a 3rd striker has killed us.

Said it at the end of the summer transfer window.

We spent (8/10) games with AAH as our off the bench help when LD had run himself into the ground.

That and the keeper signing, huge mistake from the club.

Without question had we signed Moore we would have more points that we currently have , no doubt about it ! The failure to sign a viable striker in August was a massive failing

Now of course Moore is not a PL striker or long term solution however he would have done a much better job than AAH at holding the ball up and making it stick when we were hanging on to slim leads /draws which would have resulted in some of those dropped points not happening !

Kieffer would have also added something when defending a lead

I said it on here in the summer and was told we were better than him now. I think he could have taught Delap and Hirst a lot on the training pitch. Got his injury now, but probably wouldn't have happened here as he wouldn't have been playing most weeks. A missed trick indeed.

Has a pretty poor first touch and not very mobile. Sorry he did well for us last season but that was in the Championship I don't think he would have been very willing to be third choice either which he would have been had he come to Town. Never thought he was Premiership quality.

Also looks like we lucky not to have signed Broja too, he just can't stay fit.

Will always have a soft spot for him, and he was arguably the best EFL signing in that window due to his impact.

Would he have had an impact on our PL season - probably not IMO. First touch was not great, and his hold up play was miles behind Hirst.

No, he’s not very mobile, can’t control the ball and isn’t very good in the air, especially for his height.

Mind you, if Onuachu can carve a living playing for Southampton, there’s hope for everyone alive. He was dreadful. (And yes, I know he burgled a goal)

The issue isn't not signing Moore, the issue is that we didn't recruit another decent number 9 option.
In the same way that Hladky leaving wasn't the issue, but rather that we didnt recruit better than Muric.
