Isn’t encisio effectively a striker and hopefully szmods back so not really feeling the need to risk more money with Lilkely big chance we will be relegated. Keep the core of what we have and come backk stronger once they have had a pre season together and hopefully a season of firing on all cylinders as a unit.

I can understand the "not risking it" argument, but I don't really buy it when we're so close to safety (in points terms). But no, Enciso and Szmodics aren't strikers in our system at all.

....because it was so obvious. I assume those that said wait till the end of the window will now say we didn't need one anyway. "Broady can play there"

I'm not saying "just get anyone", but odd to loan out AAH and not get any sort of replacement. If one of Delap or Hirst get injured, or suspended (LIAM!), we have no striker on the bench now. I thought this window was all about 'bench options'..?!

Who should we have signed? It is not as though there are lots of options we could have gone for. They've decided that Encisco and Szmodics are adequate cover for Delap and Hirst....will require a change of system but I'm not sure we had much choice.

Loaning out Ali seems without a replacement seems a very odd decision , with doubts over whether Delap will avoid a ban and Hirst will avoid injury
No new striker then on 21:02 - Feb 3 with 2289 views | bsw72 | Genuine question. Who should we sign considering our league position, wage and transfer limits that would be willing to be 2nd or even 3rd choice striker but would also improve the squad?

To be fair, I've talked to a lot of people over the course of the window, ex-players, journos, agents and no one was able to come up with a really decent shout. Very few strikers available it seems. How many out-and-out number nines moved at this level in this window?

I see that to some extent but when we had neither Delap nor Hirst Al-Hamadi didn't start. I don't think he was viewed as a viable third striker and it probably wasn't doing him any good coming on and getting stick.

If delap gets injured I would be quite interested in what szmods or Chaplin and encisio look like Together / all very good at creating space for them selves In tight spaces and good at interchanging with broadhead on left and philo or Hutchinson on right. Get some team ethos back [Post edited 3 Feb 21:06]

Pretty much the only one was Ferguson. Who we wanted as well but were not in a league position or squad situation (as he wouldn't guarantee to start) to land, and that disappeared when Potter went into West Ham.

Didn't Szmodics lead the line against Newcastle? Not in a hurry to see that again.

Because he's so far off the PL level that letting him play Champ football is better for his development. BUT, we surely had to do that on the proviso that we signed *someone*. If Delap tears his hamstring at Villa Park, we're literally facing a 75% fit George Hirst leading the line until May. That's not being unnecessarily negative, that's the reality we'd face. And it's quite possible considering how much we're having to flog young Delap in his first full season as a #9 (let alone first season in the PL!} The Iheanacho one feels strange to me. He has the PL physicality and speed which someone like Hirst lacks. He'd have been an ideal third choice option IMO.

I accept he might have been a panic signing. But we are at the point of needing a panic signing. In truth, having Delap, Hirst and Al-Hamidi as the only strikers at the club at the end of August was bad management. January was always going to be difficult to bring anyone in; it always has been.
