Trump... "I believe President Putin when I spoke to him yesterday. I know him very well. I think he wants peace. I think he would tell me if he didn’t."
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
If that was the case he’d never have invaded another country’s sovereign territory in 2014 and the rest 3 years ago.
He loves it. The parades, the kit, the adoration, big table, everyone grovelling, the sweat on little macron’s frightened forehead. Catherine the Great, Stalin, Peter TG he wants his empire and he wants countries that can expand his economy.
Trump wants the same. By legitimising Putin, he legitimises his stealing of Greenland, Gaza, Panama Canal and if possible Canada. I suspect that’s his primary motivation. Greatness, power, control, money, real estate, deals.
It’s the bullies club.

I'm assuming that the Ukraine Trump tower(s?) will be in the Donbas or Crimea areas or maybe he will go to where the Russians flattened towns ( helping to rebuild their lives ).

Trump doesn't seem like much of a deal maker.
At least three big concessions to Russia before negotiations even begin.

Why does Trump repeat himself so much.
It’s a new world order carve up. Greenland, Canada and the Panama Canal for Ukraine and probably the Baltic states.
You forgot Poland and Finland that Russia sees as theirs by right. Why not if Trump can take what he wants? But yes, it’s a new world order. If that’s the reality and not Daily Mail scare mongering rhetoric, so be it.
Time for Starmer to stop dreaming of what’s on the menu at the Emirates for his free lunch annd whether he can claim for the taxi (and Reeves to stop rubbing out her fantasy CV) and do a bit of work on this. Order of business:
1. Defence - might is right and unless you can defend yourself, start learning Russian. With three of the world’s largest economies in the top six in Europe, start working together properly and fund it and organise it. Dictators like Putin and Trump understand only one language which is why they’re new best mates.
2. Who are people we can work with? America is a pariah state now as far as I’m concerned if Trump carries on with his nonsense. They been an enemy since 1776 far more than they’ve been an ally. Trumps idea of a deal is not mutual benefit, but grabbing the lot. CPTPP incorporates Japan, Singapore, Chile, NZ, Australia, Peru, Malaysia, Brunei. Canada and Mexico are yet to ratify, but given Trumps hostility that’s two to pursue. Use it. We have agreements with Norway and Iceland. EU? FFS come to better arrangements trade wise re customers and trade barriers. It’s a start!
3. Regarding trade with America it’s pretty well balanced and has been for decades. Trump seeks to undermine that to the exclusive benefit of American. Fine. At the moment what’s left of our hollowed out military is embedded with US military and trade wise we import key services, fuel and a few other things.
If America seeks to ban imports, then until we find alternative sources we’ll just have to wear it. Start moving away. Let’s face it, the US chose not to inform their allies when the ran away from their Afghanistan junket.
A key is to come to an arrangement with China that stops their companies dumping to the detriment of our industries and start agreeing sensible reciprocal arrangements.
In other words, we need to distance from the US as quickly as possible without necessarily telling them. They are no friend of ours and in truth never have been. As for NATO, it’s finished. Start building treaties with friendly countries without America’s knowledge and fast. It’s going to take Russia a little time to gear up for their next territory grab so use it.
Just random nonsense ideas for thought.

Perhaps their plan is to take over the World. Dangerous times. It's o.k. believing someone can make your Country great again as like us America has suffered from the decline brought about by cheap imports where workers work much longer hours for far less and those that buy in these goods have been driven by corporate greed. Where by the UK being an open shop with a stock market that has under performed making our Companies ripe for takeover with no Government backing or the guts to say no to the takeover of vital facilities. In a way Trump is right in the protection of America's Industries and the need to produce home grown products. If we as a nation are to become better off the Government needs to make it more, not less attractive for Companies to thrive. But somehow there's also a need for the distribution of wealth to not just end up in the pockets of those who already have more than enough and in many cases are getting paid more even though what they achieve is less.

I don't know if this is a true reflection of the US right now, but it does seem true for millions of Americans. This guy sounds thoroughly depressed at what is happening and feels helpless as to what can be done to reverse it.

The current theory on him is that he’s such a provocative sh*t/pain in the arse, he gets other people moving just to shut him up. There might be something to that. If he was sticking his nose into my affairs, I‘d do anything to make him go away too.
It sounds far too altruistic for Trump though. I can’t imagine him doing anything that doesn’t benefit himself.

It’s hard to imagine the work expectations culture getting worse. They already wanted their pound of flesh and some, including ruling the roost over your weekends and few holidays with expected work extracurricular activities. It is a bit of a different culture, but I’m not sure that’s a defence.
But it’s selective of course. The workers get hammered, but here’s your reminder that Trump spent about 11 months playing golf through his last term.
