NATO 21:51 - Feb 19 with 2316 views | backwaywhen | Surely wouldn’t it be the right thing to welcome Ukraine into their family now , or does it need USA (Trumps ) agreement , don’t know how it all works if I’m honest .

NATO on 22:12 - Feb 19 with 2184 views | bournemouthblue | there's no way you get a peace agreement with Ukraine joining NATO, the Russian's wouldn't agree to it There's a lot of criteria that Ukraine would need to tick, which they won't fulfill any way currently The way things have begun, it looks more likely that NATO will fracture and we move towards a European Army with the US going rogue under Trump

Maybe Ukraine could join and then Russia could have a good kicking instead? Putin certainly deserves it. If only it was that simple, eh?

But dose that not make Russia back down if the let Ukraine join in an emergency, especially under these bizarre circumstances currently being undertaken ….or are they all afraid of the big bad wolf !

The way the US have started, it looks a long way off Trump seems to be cosying up to Putin, not reinforcing NATO I think some of the Trump stuff is part of the Trade War he wants to have with the EU and secondly to encourage EU nations to spend more on defence

A Europe wide boycott of American goods seems a good way to put Trump back in his box

NATO on 06:11 - Feb 20 with 1666 views | EastLondonBlue | One of the main reasons for Putin’s invasion was the fear Ukraine may join NATO, which really kind of backfired as Finland and Sweden then joined up and Finland has a very big military and big land border with Russia. It will be one of the main red lines for Russia too that Ukraine do not join.

Lol, do try that, let us know how you get on. Meanwhile you let Ukraine in Nato, you really will have WW3 on your hands. Sure GenZ will love conscription.

No we wouldnt. Russia would not dream of taking on Nato for real. Except, of course, if US switches sides. Which appears to be happening.

Its not really though, is it? It's s a rather hefty non-football subject in the football forum. I am interested in both sides of this forum but we have to remember, this is first and foremost a football forum, some come here just to talk football alone and that should be respected.

NATO on 13:40 - Feb 20 with 961 views | OldFart71 | The question is " How do you prevent Russia from re-entering the Ukraine if they are not in NATO" But Putin won't agree to Ukraine joining NATO or for European and UK soldiers being on the border as a peace keeping force. Added to that what use is a peace keeping force if Russia invades again and they aren't allowed to use force to stop them. A bit like Dads Army with broom sticks for guns in WW2.

The Home Guard did a lot more than weapons training with broomsticks, one of their responsibilities in the event of a Nazi invasion would have been to put 'stop lines' in place across Kent and the Eastern Counties. That involved a lot of barbed wire handling. To address the main thrust of the thread I suspect that Turkey would be an even greater stumbling block to Ukraine joining NATO.
