A late, late winner that floats under the radar after the Bristol City and Southampton shenanigans - big win!
We were truly spoilt last season.
Ipswich Town 4-3 Rotherham United - Match Report20th Feb 2024 22:11 Omari Hutchinson netted a dramatic winner five minutes into injury time a minute after Rotherham had levelled as Town came from behind to beat the bottom-of-the-table Millers 4-3 to climb to third in the Championship. Wes Burns scored twice and Kieffer Moore once as the Blues came from a goal down, scored by Tom Eaves in the second minutes, to give Town a 3-1 half-time lead but the South Yorkshiremen pulled one back via Hakeem Odoffin on the hour, then, with Town having been a shadow of their usual selves, Cafu netted a controversial penalty in the 94th minute before Hutchinson’s heroics a minute later won what could prove three vital points for the Blues.95

We were brilliant first half and awful second. Penalty for them was a joke though, I think the referee just felt Rotherham deserved a goal.
Think that game kinda shows what town were all about for the past couple of seasons and what we've not been able to replicate in the prem
We left gaps galore at times, but we pushed, scored, pushed scored, conceded and we pushed and scored. Town were never defensively solid at all under KM, it wasn't really a requirement

We were solid enough away from home, I have no idea in terms of stats but I wouldn't be surprised if we conceded more at home than away.
We were probably naive in thinking we could have the same sort of home games this season. Away form has been semi respectable, but we need to be grinding out more home results. Sort of obvious I guess.

Good point Garv, looking it up we had the 2nd best away defensive record v 7th home.

I don’t think we’ve been naive to think that in home games.
We had two very good games early in the season vs Villa & Fulham where we played well & arguably probably should’ve got ourselves more than the 2 points we did.
I think if we had won one of those games then we’d have gone onto get more points than we did in subsequent games vs Leicester, Everton, Bournemouth & Palace because we’d have had a lot more belief about us.
This is a game I had blocked from my mind, because my stress levels that night were trauma-inducing! We look back at this and say "what a game!" but I didn't feel that during it, I was cra pping myself!

You're probably right, definitely in the sense that if we'd got an early win we'd have gone on to get more results afterwards.
The only thing that nags is that we talk about those Fulham/Villa games, and Manchester Utd later on, and we say we could/should have scored a winner - there's no guarantee that the opposition doesn't go on to score another goal themselves. It feels a bit simplistic to say we should have won those games because games can change so quickly. We went 1-0 up against Villa and within 20 minutes we found ourselves 2-1 down.

It was mainly because a draw was truly a crap result in ANY game last season. To need in excess of 90 points to finish second was ridiculous. The season before we needed 97 in league one! We certainly weren't handed anything on a plate and we have been dealt a harsh hand again this year.

we were never in control even in the first half - i think from 5th minute to about 30th we were brazil and then sat back again
It was the injury to a Rotherham player that knocked us out of our comfort zone. It would still have been comfortable but for a horrendous piece of goalkeeping from Hladky to let them get back to 3-2.
That winner though, the composure from Jackson to pick out Omari rather than cross and the finish was brilliant. A big moment, although as Sitters says very much overshadowed by what came next.

I seem to remember us having a much stronger pen shout waved away as well. That second half was weird, we just didn't get going at all until they equalised and we suddenly sprung into life and got the winner.

I think the Port Vale one the year before was slightly more stressful for me. Broady’s penalty was huge.
