That Gavin Johnson header is still one of my favourite ever Ipswich goals.

Me too. I was behind the goal half way down and when that ball came over you knew what would happen next. Mayhem. Over the seats in front I went. Total chaos. We’d played so well second half and and deserved it too.

Good player, Gavin Johnson. Sadly injuries held him back but he made over 130 appearances for us and plenty more elsewhere.

Scored our first goal in the new Premier League as well. Always liked him as a player.

Unstoppable!

Getting there before dear Illy.

What a night though.

One of my favourite Town memories was being there that night. The atmosphere in that away end was electric.

So he did. Villa 1-1. I’d long forgotten that. Looking it up I see Gavin got our next goal too - away at Wimbledon which I was also at and I think was played at Selhurst Park. He didn’t get many but certainly got us off to a good start!

He scored our first two. Netted in the 1-0 at Wimbledon.

Those were the days
Coach load of lads from Ipswich and Colchester absolute carnage
Got there just in time for KO

Never realised the cheating whinging soucers got away with moving the ball forward 5 yards for free kick

Know we were going up after game.

I always mention this whenever it comes up, but the free kick was given not for that incident with McManaman but for a foul by Stockwell on Saunders on the edge of the box when the ball ran on. In typically useless fashion, Look East didn't show it there. It's 3:58 into this video - listen for the whistle.

I mean, it wasn't a foul. It was Dean Saunders, after all. But it does explain the positioning of the free kick.

I think that was the first game I ever watched on sky sports as they'd just bought out bsb and had the fa cup rights.

We were about there as well, about 4 rows behind the tunnel that led to the concourse.

One of my favourite ever goals… it happened in slow motion and I can still picture it now… it’s past Grobelaar, it’s under the bar… bloody hell, it’s in!!

Then when Dozzell put us in the lead in extra-time, it felt surreal. Liverpool’s powers were starting to wane, but they still had the aura of their sides from the 80s.

Probably my favourite game that we lost.

The other fond memory I have from that night was eating fish shop chips with Curry sauce for the first time after the game. Funny how some things you never forget.

Before the game, we had a walk around Anfield and bought some chips from a fish and chip shop behind the Kop.

I was standing there minding my own business munching away when a police horse stuck its head over my right shoulder and tried to help himself!

As you say, it’s funny the things that stick in your head!

Molby hit that free kick so well though, that he’d have scored even if it was a couple of yards further back. The only variable is that maybe Forrest would have got a dive in, but I still don’t think he’d have saved it.

I went down from Lancashire with a friend. Just paid on the gate, as I remember. The best away end I've ever been in. I guess most people my age get sad that younger fans see the cup as a training exercise for squad players. TWTD

That goal is one of the most memorable I've seen in my time. Always love the classic cross and bullet header goal. Also remember the ref Alf Buksh was changed at half time, we had a good record with Alf in charge, don't think we'd ever lost. Great season, only time we actually won a division in the last 60+ years and a cup run only ended by the team that had finished second in the league the season before.

Veni Vidi Participatur. Now we can get back to competing.
