A complete lack of balls into the box 21:33 - Feb 26 with 1360 viewsbournemouthblue

What was that all about?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Well....I'll state the obvious.

1 striker and 1 midfielder in there against 6 defenders.

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...

Well you've got Delap up against 3 CBs. One of our only crosses went straight in to Onanas hands.

The only decent move was when Cajuste overlapped and played it across the 6 yard box.

A fair argument for getting Hirst on earlier I'd suggest

I think your subject could’ve ended at ‘balls’

We've never been a big "swing a ball into the box and hope for the best" team. It's only really been when Moore was here that we tried it. Mostly it's "get to the byline and pull it back". The difference is that in the prem they aren't going to miss their clearing kick like Seri did for Hull, or leave the striker sat on the penalty spot without anyone within 5 yards of him like Moore against Coventry.

When you look at the money they have spent on defensive players, the switch to 10 men meant they could just sit in a low block and do what they were paid to do and they did it well, I will give them that

But but never crossing it, we are never going to know

Savage on co-comms was pretty frustrated by it.

We struggled against the low block playing against Port Vale, so it's no surprise that we struggle against man United as well. I'm sure if there were lots of balls just swung into the box there would be plenty of people complaining about aimless punts and why didn't we try to be more intricate

He was and he is right to be fair

Whether crosses would have yielded anything is another matter but we will never know, not having tried it

Hurst and Szmodics should have been on much earlier as should Johnson.

Morsy looks shot and this is from someone who loves him to pieces for what he's done.

Get some balls in the box and have Szmodics and the two mids looking for second balls. Szmodics especially has a knack for being in the right places. There was very little variation.

I was also a bit puzzled as to why Burgess didn't start. We know Maguire is good in the air from set pieces, so why not play your best heading defender? (Unless he's out for some reason - I've not checked).

Palmer is decent and looks very assured.

That second half we had no spark, the intensity needed to be 25% higher and the changes need to be made when it's obvious things need changing and not 20 minutes after.

This is the most frustrated I've been at a game for quite some time.

The Maguire thing bugs me, because surely one of our CBs should have been marking him at set pieces?

Weren't they busy being cuddled by United players so Maguire could get to the ball? It would appear that's no longer a foul but I think it depends what colour shirt you're wearing.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Yup. Total lack of numbers in there but mostly shocking delivery.

I don’t mind the ‘lack’ of balls into the box, in fact quite frustrating here the groans from the stand which don’t help the players. However what was a concern was our lack of creative and incisive passing to get closer to there goals and work an opening. Sadly we never looked like scoring against 10 men.

We had Delap in there, being marked by a man with a giant head. That’s all there is to aim at

We’ll be good again... one day

We rarely ever broke the lines, Philogene didn't have the beating of his man nor did we ever have an overlapping option

We had a bit more joy down the left but still a lack of adventure to make a run and zip it through to someone

Yes you are right, I just don’t think lumping balls into the box was the answer.

We tried it and at times it worked - Preston away although we didnt win he came straight on, balls in the box, goal.

It's that lack of plan B which is killing us. Teams in the premiership play against our plan A every week.
