Trying to give a balanced post here..I hope I achieve it.

I feel quite deflated from that performance.

Team news comes out. No shocks in regards to set up so I was glad at least to see some similar names from the previous game as there has at times been changes when it appeared they didn't need to be made.

The set up however for me was still not what I wanted to see but I've learned I've just got to accept that it is what it is.

Anyways to the game itself. The first half it felt really flat. Yes we scored but apart from that and delaps early chance I didn't feel we had a plan to take on utd. I just didn't feel any pattern at play or direction and the half kinda just want past us.

Our set piece defending for the first time in a while was all over the shop. We really struggled.

HT

It's 2 2. Utd have 10 men. The game is there for us to win. We are fighting for relegation. I'm looking for some firepower to come on and for us to be pushing utd like mad.

It didn't happen. No changes. We were slow getting at them. Utd scored another and I still don't understand why philgogene and or cajuste were tasked with marking maguire.

Anyways. We still don't change anything.

First round of subs and it's same old same old. 1 cm off for another and broady on. Still nothing new.

It didn't really change anything

81 minutes. Just 9 to go and we finally see hirst. Where's Sammy too. The guy who scored 20 odd goals last season.. he gets 3 minutes of football.

Yes the gap is big. No one can ignore that gap. But what on earth was that tonight. It didn't feel like we were playing a prem fixture. It felt like a friendly.

KM. Had a lot of credit. I get it. But I'm really disappointed in him tonight. I've made comments before I know. But tonight I actually feel real disappointment. The lack of positive changes in the game for me set the tone. Almost like none of the players or the manager believed we could win the game.

I know I'm alone in my thoughts on most things so I won't repeat them as no need. But I'm just really disappointed tonight.

Think we're all disappointed fella.

No sane fan wouldn't be.

Just some seem to revel too much in it for my liking. We're all different but I've never understood what being so negative achieves.

We fluffed it tonight but hey, we're in the bloody Prem having a go after feck knows how long. I'd rather tonight than getting done in L1.

I just didn't understand why we brought on our attacking players so late and then still proceeded to move side to side at snails pace.

Thought Burgess would have started to counter slabhead on set pieces too.

Palmer is good.

That's about as frustrated I've been at a game since McKenna took over.

This is a fair and accurate description of how most of us feel I think.
I just can't believe what a nothing performance we gave 2nd half, surely the lads should have come out chomping at the bit?,

I think that’s a pretty good summary, the decisions and timing of changes left me scratching my head. I wonder if KM is second guessing himself, and feels a little lost having never faced this challenge before.

It’s such a brutal way to learn about top flight management. I hope he learns from this, as he deserves the credit he has earned.

On the plus side I don’t see another club coming in for him over the summer, certainly not one that’ll be significantly bigger than us to tempt him.

because Man Utd packed their lines and played defensively once they got that goal in the 2nd half, so there was no way to play through them, the only space and time we had on the ball was on the wings trying to play it side to side, any time we tried through the middle near the penalty area, Maguire is leaping on everything, the ball gets loose from us, or we concede a free kick.

why cant we sometimes just accept other teams work out systems on how to stop us playing, and are sometimes better at that, than we are at breaking them down. Football is never a game where only one side influences the game.

they kept mentioning it in commentary how daft they thought Amorim was to take off an attacking forward like Garnacho and replace him with the more defensive Mazraoui.

which team were better defending 2nd half. which team won the game. so how daft was that sub choice in the end ?

if that goal they scored 2nd half doesnt go in, and we get to 60mins at 2-2, its a completely different game.

thats the flippin difference in the Premier league, vs the Championship or League 1 fare youve been served up the last two seasons, you make one tiny mistake because youre not switched on properly after half time and not concentrating fully, conceeding a corner, or not marking properly, and the other side WILL score, and that goal completely changes the game, because chances to comeback and score again are actually few and far between.

I don't think the question was bringing Mazraoui on, it was who went off for him. I have no idea why they didn't sub Zirkzee. Garnacho was giving us fits.

You can't expect to get rewards when 1 you accept that utd had 3 cbs. Yet continue to offer them the 1 striker to eat up.

You put two on and you make them run. We had no runners creating spaces so that we could attempt to pass onto dangerous areas.

Within a minute of hirst coming on. He made a run and we got a corner out of it.

Could he have put townsend on and asked him to float some balls in. Could he have swapped clarke and philogene on the flanks. Could he had put Sammy on earlier who could have worked the lines with delap and offered another target.

It's to safe to say utd defended well when we did nothing but made the same subs and played the same way as usual..

Agree with most of this Frimmers thank you!

On the subs piece, a contrary view from my side happy to discuss.

Tuanzebe in the final 20mins was high up putting on the pressure, but we kept loosing possession and ManU kept clipping the ball into the space vacated stretching us on the counter attack. They could have knicked another one but Fernandez's pass was just ahead.

Was it this that made McK go a bit safer on the initial subs?

In fairness shortly after with no change in game, he threw everything at it (even 2 strikers!) But if anything it made us more disjointed and lacking cohesion.

Szmodics was an outlier, you'd presume you would want one of your most clinical finishers on earlier but we don't know how fit he is...

Step 1, we just need to stop the leaky bucket in defence. In reality too late for this season, but now is time to focus on next season and figuring out how to stop the goals conceded column increasing rapidly and take it on from there.

The defence is leaky because we cannot keep hold of possession. The first half was abysmal from our opener to the red card. Constantly giving away the ball, we also looked clueless out of possession. It was probably our worst performance of the season, arguably Everton aside. It's amazing how good we looked against Manchester United just twelve or so weeks ago compared to tonight. Chalk and cheese.

Agree totally re. keeping possession. Our close touch ball control is poor but then conceding at set pieces?

I think this is pretty spot on. We didn’t look like a team in the slightest, and that’s the most worrying thing. No sense of fight and no urgency. Nobody grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck.no leadership.

I’m not sure ifI’km more peed off or just generally a bit sad that we’re letting a genuine opportunity at staying up, pass us by. L
