Suggestion for a Town 'Anthem' 08:26 - Mar 4 with 4191 viewsKeno

firstly we have one, EEJB. its unique to use and should be used a lot more than it is

But based on the Mull if Kinytre thread what songs could we bastardise?

We use to do a pretty version of amazing grace where most people got the lyrics right

for something different always thought "Country Roads' could work

"Portman Road take me home to the place where I belong"

And what about Ed Sheeran's Perfect?

what else you got TWTD??

EEJB has caught on loads this season I think, now just need to get rid of Hey Jude and play it before kick off.

No , country roads should be played before kick off .

It's still 'Story of the Blues' although as someone mentioned ages ago, that would probably be better as an end of game song (when we win!) These pre-game anthems all seem to have created for the tourists more than anything though.

Forever grateful to whoever brought 'Story of the Blues' to my attention during our time in League One. It got airtime here after every match of the first promotion run-in and it's been a great backdrop to the last couple of years overall. Especially like the way he wails 'Try to get back up!'

EEJB is by far the most awful, embarrassing thing about the club.
And that includes Roy Keane, Marcus Evans, Paul Hurst etc etc

Ipswich Town, Ipswich Town FC
We're the nicest football club
The world has ever seen.

Finest football team is pushing it a bit, as we still haven't quite reached the level of the 1970 Brazil team. Marginal, I know.

Club needs an anthem for pre game - absolutely no doubt about that imo.

Surely has to be an Ed Sheeran song in some capacity. Local boy, boy done good, global superstar, and yet has that connection back to the local club.

Castle on the Hill is a homage to Suffolk but probably not catchy enough.

And if we're talking Suffolk artists, how about?

Whatever it is, it should be sung without stadium music, a la EEJB now.

Pre-match music just drowns everything out, becomes incredibly cheesy and fake. It is not atmosphere, it’s just some spotty kid hitting play on the DJ kit.

'First they take your pride, turn It all inside, and then you realise you got nothing left to lose.' Are the lyrics that always get me and were very appropriate for the 'desperate years'

With EEJB, I think what ever section it starts from, they should begin slowly with the la la la part of the song. This way, once it has spread, the whole crowd are ready to sing the first verse together. Plus, it would build up a nice tension. Normally by the time we're in full voice the song is already half way through. Definitely getting better though.

EEJB is the correct answer. Its unique to us

PSV fans were singing 'Eindhoven' in the beat drop of Zombie Nation last night as the teams came out, 'Ipswich Town' could work equally well. I think Celtic may sing it sometimes too, but thanks to Sir Bobby's quote this song could rightly be claimed by us and could replace our current overused and unimaginative entrance music. Its quite energising and self- defacing too, win-win. Would have to start at 1:55 mins.

EEJB may be unique but it is also sh1te. There is a reason why it has never really took off in the last 60+ years.β…”

I love EEJB, and it's unique to the town, but it's doesn't make for a good anthem.

The pace is wrong, it's not simple enough and the song structure isn't right for an anthem.

An anthem needs to be in the shape note singing style. The successful ones follow this rule - YNWA, Bubbles, Jerusalem, WTSGMI, etc Lyrics can be changed, but the underlying musical structure needs to be right for a really good, crowd participating anthem.
