I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ 11:34 - Mar 10 with 3185 views | textbackup | But what single opposition player have you seen this season and just gone ‘wow’ I think the stand out for me was the Brighton number 20, in the game at their place. 4/5/6 times he picked the ball up and just went. Felt there was no chance of stopping him (yet ironically we nearly nicked that with the Delap shot!) He probably stands out as it’s something we lack, albeit Cajuste does atleast try it.

Ollie Watkins at home to Villa was one for me. Everything about how he carried himself, physicality, his pace, his movement, his touch. Relatively early in the season still then as well and it was a bit of a 'OK this is the Premier League' moment. You just don't get anything close to that in the Championship, even the top players last season like Rutter are levels below. And 90% of Championship forwards like the Sam Gallagher's and Will Keane's are just nowhere near that.

Yeah he really was a hell of a ‘Jesus Christ’ moment… And, what I like most about him, seems a proper honest footballer too, seems to have it all!

Konate - was like a skyscraper. Delap was laughing at one point, I’m sure he just thought ‘well this is pointless’ 😂

Tonali got through several cigars that afternoon.

I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 11:52 - Mar 10 with 2422 views | soupytwist | As Joe mentioned - Tonali and Bruno in midfield for Newcastle, different class. Funnily enough I wasn't hugely impressed by Man City. Maybe it's because they're not at the heights they once were but I'd had my expectations raised by those heights and the media banging on about their brilliance for the past however many years.

Tonali and Bruno gave an absolute midfield masterclass. Newcastle were bang in form, and those 2 were frighteningly good. Many time capped Italy and Brazil internationals, probably in or close to the peak years of their careers. Top tier.

De Bruyne and Salah, both at PR. Sat and watched them, and the positions they took up and runs off the ball were something else.

I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:01 - Mar 10 with 2293 views | Steve_M | I think the stand-out two were Watkins and Tonali, which will be a common theme on this thread, I thought Isak's movement was really good against us too and Mbeumo was pretty good too. Not quite what you asked and, I don't think he was that great against us, but every other time I've seen Villa this Morgan Rogers has looked really good.

I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:06 - Mar 10 with 2237 views | Double_Dutch | Baleba, Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, no surprise that they are all midfield players, as this is the one area, that I felt needed urgent attention as soon as we were promoted to the Premier League. I also really like what Mitoma offers in his all round game. When the Americans took over from Evans, my hope, was that they would improve upon what remained of our recruitment network. I think that we can all agree that Brighton appear to very much have this area nailed down, which is no surprise, that three of the above names have come from this process!
I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:06 - Mar 10 with 2230 views | Jrm_72 | Going with "people I'd never really heard of before this year" I will second Baleba and also Tonali to a lesser extent. Another one that wasn't on my radar until we played them was Keane Lewis-Potter at Brentford. I thought he was a cracking player down their left side, gave Harry a torrid day.
I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:11 - Mar 10 with 2142 views | BseaBlue | Just to add a couple of different names. I thought De Bruyne was quality in the Citeh game at Portman Road. I also thought Semenyo looked class. Can see why there is a host of clubs after him.
I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:16 - Mar 10 with 2092 views | JakeITFC | I mentioned them in other threads, but I really liked Morgan Rogers and Adam Wharton against us - technically very good but also have the physicality for this level. A bit boring but the manner with which Saliba and Gabriel for Arsenal just completely shut down any hint of a chance for us was impressive and kind of shows that those elite modern defenders are just really strong, fast and big.
I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:23 - Mar 10 with 2043 views | Phantasm | Even if his star is on the wane a bit I thought Kevin De Bruyne was terrific at PR. Seemingly always in space and made some very intelligent runs. Very much 'as good as billed' in terms of 'one of the best ever PL midfielders'. I also got a new-found appreciation in that game just how fast and powerful Haaland is. The way he picked up the ball on half way, turned and drove straight at the goal was remarkable. and not something you can necessarily see on telly.
I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ on 12:32 - Mar 10 with 1972 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Gravenberch at Liverpool... pure class. That Liverpool midfield 3 tbh, they were frustratingly good at Anfield. Can see why they are walking the league with those lot. Also thought Wharton ran the show on Saturday. If Nketiah wasn't so bad he would have had an unreal assist. [Post edited 10 Mar 12:44]

Another one, watching Cody Gakpo up close in the first half at Anfield his touch and control were just so good. Poor Wes.

The pass from Trent for Liverpool's first was ridiculous. That's was a big wow moment for me, and oddly a joy to watch. The other player was Traore for Fulham. I don't think I've ever seen such a physical specimen grace our turf!

I wondered who would be the first player mentioned!!! My money was on Ian Marshall but "proper lad 'tis Tabby" is as good as any!

I don't think I've seen a player with such quick feet before. I also agree about the Newcastle players in midfield; their performance was unreal. An honourable mention goes to Mateo Kovačić, who is far above anything we've seen in League One and the Championship. Additionally, I thought Rico Lewis performed exceptionally well at the Etihad.
