because we can't defend or attack with enough potency to extend those leads

It has been a costly and notable failing that we didn't have until this season.

We haven't picked that many up from losing ones either, have we?

EDIT: It does also show that we have been good enough to get our noses ahead a good number of times.

Just a total inability to control games, whether that be through a lack of quality, tactics or decision making. Frustrating that we can compete to a point but not across the course of a match

I think we have to give everything physically for 65 minutes just to compete against these bigger quicker more powerful players. Not surprising we flag a little.

Indeed. Hang on to half of those and we would be right in the battle to stay up.

Need to learn lessons for the future.

We did in the last match so we can do it but not playing like we did second half today.

Well summed up. We live and learn don't we.
Next year we regroup.
The Championship table just about sums up where we are on the yo-yo.
Top two were us in this position last year.
I feel we have more about us generally but we have come so far in two years there can't be too much moaning surely?
Yet there is.

We couldn't defend in L1 or the Champ, so no surprise we can't in the Prem.

The two divisions we just got promoted out of?
That really doesn't make any sense.

Trouble is how many of our players would get in other teams. Cajuste comes off and you have Taylor as a replacement . No disrespect to the guy, but when you can't hold a place down in the Championship what chance have you of holding your own in the Prem. I'm afraid another reset is required. The problem is if too many go either through being sold as with Delap. Cajuste and Phillips go that leaves nothing in midfield. Lots for the management to sort out and not much point in playing in the Premier League if you are just there to get a good kicking week in week out. I said last season that McKenna only proves himself when things are going well. I don't for one minute blame all our current ills on him/ Injuries and players who we bought in being in and out of form. Players like Davis who was the dogs last season being caught out and exposed. Hutchinson has been injured a couple of times and hasn't shown last seasons form and Morsy's age is catching up with him.

This is why Burnley will stand a better chance next season. They won't be pretty to watch but they will grind out more results.

We need to learn the balance that the likes of Wolves and Forest have done.

TBF, Forest did it by cheating and accepting the Poundland punishment.

That clearly contributed but I think there is enough evidence that the squad isn't far away. It is about tightening up without forfeiting the style of play and the attacking impetus. It is what Wolves did under the new manager.

Build the right way next season and come back up stronger.

Did you know that we have the widest pitch in the Prem? We've made it wider too, makes you think, if you give quality players with pace and power even more space....

It's the opposite of Luton's approach isn't it?

Perhaos it's part of the longer-term plan. I think ultimately we want to be playing decent football as an established Premier League side, not trying to battle it in a Stoke-of-old way.

Luton finished 6 points off Forrest last year (10 if you don’t include the 4 points deducted). We were going up against 17 established premier league teams with 2-3 years minimum premier league experience/squads/finance.

Whilst the teams around us have been brining off internationals off the bench, or had them starting when players have been injured/suspended, we have had players hardly started for us in the championship (Taylor, Ali Al Hamad)

So I think our recruitment has been poor? Largely, this summer and January, yes I do currently.
Has McKenna made some mistakes, yep he has
Does it change how I feel about the team/McKenna//our wonder? Not one bit! Love them all and look forward to seeing McKenna build for another attempt!

I do think this is probably the hardest ever season to have been promoted for, it won't get any easier for the promoted 3 next season either

What we need to do is find a Delap replacement, some quality central midfielders and we'll go again next season, ready to really take on the Championship

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I love the players who got us here.
The only one I love who we brought in post promotion to the Premier League is Delap.
