You've replied to me that you'd move onto other targets and you've replied to Berks that you'd rather have Delap. You're all over the place mate.

Basically, you want to have your cake and eat it, you're using the gift of hindsight and you're stamping your feet because the world isn't perfect.

Incidentally, given how we struggled to get another no.9 to support Delap (let alone replace him if we decided to walk away from the deal), who do you think we should've got instead? Given we were after another striker I'll need two answers.

Think you’re misinterpreting.

I want Delap here, it would ridiculous not to want him, terrific talent - but if you can’t do a deal that is best for the club, then you move on to other targets - there is nothing revolutionary or complex to understand about that.

Hope that clarifies it up for you, mate.

So are you saying in the context of last summer as a newly promoted club facing competition for his signature that the deal didn't work for the club? We're doubling our money in a year, not making a loss, and he's been excellent. I struggle to see how that's a deal that doesn't work for the club.

We did a deal that was excellent for the club. It's not complex.
The fact that a forum guy wants £70m for him doesn't change the reality of what it's like to negotiate in the real world.

Who was the alternative target who would have been our best player, leading scorer and given us £70m ?

Dunno why you're on such a downer the club, but it's getting pretty tiresome. The club is like night and day to the one it was in January 2021. Our long-term success wasn't ever going to be linear.
