30m release clause for Delap when we go down on 07:12 - Apr 12 by itfcsuth | Think you’re misinterpreting. I want Delap here, it would ridiculous not to want him, terrific talent - but if you can’t do a deal that is best for the club, then you move on to other targets - there is nothing revolutionary or complex to understand about that. Hope that clarifies it up for you, mate. [Post edited 12 Apr 7:16]

So are you saying in the context of last summer as a newly promoted club facing competition for his signature that the deal didn't work for the club? We're doubling our money in a year, not making a loss, and he's been excellent. I struggle to see how that's a deal that doesn't work for the club.

We did a deal that was excellent for the club. It's not complex. The fact that a forum guy wants £70m for him doesn't change the reality of what it's like to negotiate in the real world. Who was the alternative target who would have been our best player, leading scorer and given us £70m ?
