I’ve watched about a thousand games at Portman Road 20:23 - Apr 20 with 2711 views | CopfordBlue | and that is the most comfortably I’ve ever seen us get beaten at home. We had just 4 shots, none of them on target and we didn’t even get a corner. Totally outplayed by an excellent team from the first kick to the last. I’m not complaining and I’m not annoyed, I’m just saying it as I saw it.

The players are still putting in a massive shift considering the season is done or dusted which is admirable and should be recognised, but the atmosphere is different from a month ago. Still positive atmosphere though.

It's weird, isn't it? This the fifth relegation I've seen, and it's the one I've been least bothered about. In 1986, I was in disbelief (Oxford 3 Arsenal 0? Seriously?) In 1995, I was embarrassed. In 2002, I was fuming, especially after that run in December and January gave us a great chance of surviving. In 2019, I was despairing. This one, I just have a sort of "Oh well" feeling. I suspect this is because this is what we half expected to happen. This doesn't mean there haven't been several games where I've been fuming afterwards (Saints and Wolves at home obviously), but I guess the fact that it's been a learning experience, we've made a shed load of cash from it, we didn't expect to be there anyway, we've still got one of the best young managers out there, we've got a squad that should theoretically be a force in the Championship, we've got owners that are seemingly committed to the cause, we get shed loads of publicity thanks to the connection to one of the biggest pop stars in the world, Portman Road has had a spruce up, and we're about to have top notch training facilities and a Category 1 Academy. So, I'd much rather be us than Leicester or Southampton. DISCLAIMER: I reserve the right to be despairing again if a 3-1 home defeat to Preston on a wet Tuesday night in November leaves us in our traditional home of 15th. [Post edited 20 Apr 21:24]

I can’t recall the details but remember the game (and the spectacular Dixon own goal). I can name several games over the years where I would describe the performance as pathetic, yesterday wasn’t one of them. I’ve seen us play worse than we did yesterday many times but I don’t recall ever having seen us completely outclassed from start to finish. We didn’t even have a spell of pressure, at no point was there any momentum or a feeling that we could cause them any problems. They were totally dominant and all we could do was try to contain them, which in large spells and with some good fortune we did fairly well. Without the team having togetherness and some backbone it would have been double figures.

I’ve watched about a thousand games at Portman Road on 09:54 - Apr 21 with 1466 views | BloomBlue | You had us as a team of players who know they're relegated and confidence shot versus a team who finished their season bad spell a few weeks ago and have just thrashed RM, full of confidence. The only chance we had yesterday was if they had been playing the 2nd leg against RM this week and had one eye on that.
I’ve watched about a thousand games at Portman Road on 10:23 - Apr 21 with 1412 views | DJR | Being down to 10 men after 32 minutes didn't help. I'm not saying we would have done much better with 11 all game, but had we got a goal back, we might have been able to make a bit more of a game of it. With 10 men, and against a team of such ability, that was impossible. [Post edited 21 Apr 10:25]

Away, Grimsby Town, Burley's last match. There have been a few times this season we have been a very poor watch but I still believe in the long term project.

Ah yes, that was a desperate time. I think Paul Jewell had just been sacked and we were managerless if memory serves me correctly. Probably one of the lowest moments in my time watching ITFC. [Post edited 21 Apr 12:20]

Going into that match we had won 8 out of the last 10 matches. Team's confidence shattered into a million pieces before our eyes and never recovered that season. To be fair we started off competitively enough, so was not a completely poor performance.

I have a dim memory of Grimsby beating us 2-0 at home on a very wet Saturday in the late 90s.

Agree about Newcastle; couldn't make yesterday. I was able to listen to most of the first half on 5 Live and commentators remarked that it was the most dominant display they'd watched by a team all season, and that was before Leif got himself sent off (which they agreed with and were amused by the booing of Saka - said Town fans would have no complaints once they saw the replays).

Lee Dixon's OG almost made the game memorable, but yes, that season was an utter embarrassment.
