Nice comment from a geordie on 20:29 - Apr 27 by BanksterDebtSlave | I guess they didn't sing any Town songs too? (not to excuse the other bit though) Maybe Texters saw me singing feck off feck off rather than walk on walk on. |
Don't get me wrong the whole day was wonderful I just didn't get why Ipswich fans en masse were banging out YNWA when we were on the verge of promotion. No anti-scouse agenda I'd have been equally aghast if we'd starting belting out I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles etc it was just a bizarre moment.

Nice comment from a geordie on 20:03 - Apr 27 by BanksterDebtSlave | I stood at anfield watching a huge % of the away end drips video YNWA, some join in singing, didn’t sing a single Town song... Things that never happened part xxxx |
I don’t mind that you weren’t there, and didn’t see it. But I was, about 5 rows from the front. Turned round to see hundreds of phones in the air, and could see others mouthing the words.

I can live with that. It was commented on here and Twitter at the time too.

Nice comment from a geordie on 08:04 - Apr 27 by textbackup | The way we’ve started singing when 2/3-0 down this season is so weird. |
Our away fans have been pretty good all season. Compared to the fans we have had visiting PR who more often than not, have won, but sat there in near silence all game. Our fans were vocal consistently on Saturday, at 0-0 and at 0-3. So seems a strange angle to take. We haven't only started singing when we are getting battered. [Post edited 28 Apr 9:14]

I'll no doubt get pelters for this, but I understand it as 1. It's a fabulous song which I find hard to resist singing along to 2. It doesn't just belong to LFC 3. It's become a general anthem which is the epitome of support & togetherness .

https://photos.app.goo.gl/A2EfdCc2PaiRnvuE8 Sung by most clubs in the day, slow, fast as the original, it was a scouse song but many borrowed it

Wembley 2000, the Barnsley fans started singing YNWA about 20-30 seconds from the end. Town fans started to join in but the whistle went almost immediately. Another 30 seconds and all of Wembley would have been united in singing it.

Nice comment from a geordie on 20:08 - Apr 27 by NthQldITFC | Always loved the Geordie fans. Whilst Suffolk fans tend to be (traditionally at least) a bit more reserved, I've always felt the two clubs share a little in the way of cheerfulness, humility and sportspersonship. Corinthian might be the word? Of course there's the Sir Bob link but I think it goes a little deeper than that. Hope they do qualify, and also win the league next season. HTL. |
Yes agree with you on that assessment. We also have Jackie Milburn and Bobby Ferguson with a Geordie link. But I think SBR is the massive drawing together of the two sets of fans. They're a one football club, city/ town but dwarf us in terms of population. It's interesting they've never gone down the root of a soulless modern stadium, because with a population of over 800k they could easily fill a 75k stadium I'm sure. Geordies are grounded about football and maybe the sociofrmographic of Newcastle / Northumberland means there's no airs and graces or entitlement about their fans, which i love. I'd happily sit amongst them wearing my Town shirt and not really fear any retribution. I'm definitely hoping they get over the line for Champions League.....

Texters - please show your working out (ie evidence) for that statement. If you can’t then maybe give your head a wobble, give TWTD a break for a while, or whatever else it takes to help you relent from your needlessly negative and provocative posts. Call yourself a Town fan? You should be ashamed of yourself.

Nice comment from a geordie on 14:18 - Apr 28 with 823 views | Vaughan8 | TO be honest, I've seen comments from other teams on Facebook all season and they've all been really positive about how well our away fans have been. a lot saying "were definitely the loudest". So well done to those who've gone regularly. [Post edited 28 Apr 14:18]

A few further observations. Liverpool were the first to adopt it as a result of the Gerry and the Pacemaker's version. But it was taken up by most other teams and was probably still in fashion back in in 2000. These days I think it is only Liverpool and Celtic who sing it. [Post edited 28 Apr 20:41]

It looks like there’s a new stadium planned for an area next Leazes Park. I saw a lot of surveyors around there the other week doing some measuring and stuff. It’ll be a shame, when I get home from sea and get the taxi home, it’s always a strangely comforting sight when I see St James’, it’s a “finally home” kind of feeling. Carry on down the A167, along the GNR route, over the Tyne Bridge, with the familiar buildings and roads passing by, bringing me closer to my kids running into my arms. It’s magic.
