£12m for a player that's played all of his football in the Prem? Is still not yet in his prime and can play in multiple positions? Amortised over a 4-year contract, £3m a year for a club like Fulham is relative peanuts for a back-up/squad player.

Transfermarkt values him at €9m which is ~£7.7m.....think £7.5m-8m sounds about right for him

Maybe in 2005.

What does he do to command a high fee?

There are right backs in every top league in Europe who offer more at half the price. He can't defend at this level and he's not threatening enough going forwards. If it wasn't for Burns, Ogbene and Philogene's injuries, I don't think Johnson would've played much.

didnt hudson odei go for 5m and elanga for 15m id argue they are better players than johnson, so 8-10m for me would be a good deal

Whatever we think of Johnson, if a player is good enough that a mid-table Premier League club is enquiring, and they're neither old nor nearly out of contract, then the fee is de facto going to be "high", relatively speaking, isn't it?

that could be said for any player, more often than not they will have modest clauses to protect themselves and we have to say yes otherwise dont get them, the club as a promoted club has little pull in the negs we can think we do but thats based off history not now, we as a club has always been a selling club dont see that changing

OK, I don't believe he has a clause that anyone would be willing to meet this summer - just my opinion of course. I just don't see the appeal of the deal otherwise. We had numbers in that area, he wasn't even a different profile and it would have been very optimistic to think he would be the x-factor to keep us up (unlike an Enciso type who had shown elements of being a PL game winner and was only a loan).

….with KM is his predictability with substitutions. Particularly in the Champ where his routine is to simply replace a player with a “less tired” version of the same player.

Personally I think having a versatile right sided player that is more attacking than our standard RB as well as being more defensive than our standard RW is a really useful weapon.

IMHO.

You have an issue with McKenna's substitutions in the Championship?!

You know we came right through that division to promotion at the first attempt, right?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I don't actually mind Johnson. He's done a job on the right hand side of midfield for us. It's not flashy but the job he has done suits him in a team that is struggling towards the bottom of the PL. He couldn't nail down a spot in a West Ham side that were steady under Moyes when Johnson was there.

I don't think he suits us in the hybrid RB role and he definitely should be nowhere near the right midfield in a team pushing for promotion again. I'm stuck to see where his role is next season.

If we are looking at a fee of £12m and we get it, then I'll hold my hands up and say I've underestimated the current transfer market, but I'll be surprised.

Sell if the number is right.

From a player trading perspective, which I would imagine we will become more active in the outgoings in future windows, it's important to sell at the right time.

If we could get £5m for Johnson who I'm not sure is quite the right fit for our system at RB, H.Clarke will return, and then that would leave us to either retain Axel (preferred choice), or look in the market for a really smart additions:
- Japhet Tanganga - £2m-£3m
- Timothy Fosu-Mensah - Free
- Jonjoe Kenny - Free

Would be cheat level good at Championship level in my opinion. Hope he stays.

Agree with this. Think he is like a lot of our players.btoo good for championship not quite good enough for premier league.

If someone offers £12m for a player we got for free, who hasn't pulled up any trees, doesn't quite fit our system/we're not sure what his best position is, and he's up near the top end in wages... I'd snap their hands off, frankly!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

There's a lot wrong with those assumptions. £5 mill is low. Finances are not what will prevent us from keeping hold of Tuanzebe and calling your own suggestions 'really smart' is nearly Trumpesqe. It's highly unlikely that you're going to be able to upgrade on Johnson in the Championship.

Hope he stays. He would absolutely dominate in the Championship.

Would prefer to keep him and Tuanzebe and get a fee for Harry Clarke personally.

Same here.
