Delap a lucky boy yesterday 08:45 - May 4 with 2966 viewsChrisd

Lucky to escape a second yellow card IMO. Just plain daft from him after being booked minutes earlier. You could see he was looking at the defender and wants to hurt the player. Just so stupid from Delap, many officials would’ve given him a second yellow card for that challenge and he couldn’t have had any complaints.

It had potential to be the absolute classic referee shrugging his shoulders while showing Delap the second yellow as if to say "what did you expect?"

Funny one is Delap. His first yellow saw Cajuste running around a group of players seemingly to try and get to Delap and calm him down, then you've got O'Shea after the second incident telling him to think. He does seem a bit brainless sometimes. Wonder how much the coaching staff have tried to calm that down.

He was running full pelt alongside an oponent and a defender came from the other direction. Perhaps he should have dematerialised to avoid the collision?

What a very peculiar thing to pick on after yesterday. As usual people were all over him and Morsy. Neither player has had a red card all season. Delap hasnt had a ban.

I thought it was definitely more that the defender jumped onto him and there wasn't any chance of avoiding the collision. Delap even turned his back to minimise the impact, which would otherwise have been shoulder first.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I think he could have pulled out and made the collision less dramatic. He was never going to get the
Marginal yellow imo, and he may have got one if he hadn’t just been given one.

Watch that incident again. Initially he watches the ball, then he sees who’s going for it, stops watching the ball and jumps into their player. Delap knows exactly what he’s doing there.

He turns his back protectively. Unless you think he can stop dead, Im not sure what else he could do.

There’s no intention in Delap getting the ball, he just wants to leave his mark on their defender due to the earlier yellow card incident. Sorry, I’m not going to agree with you on this one, it’s clear as day.

My memories of Delap, will be the following.

Pace
Strength
Blistering shot when he gets it off
Head down and run for goal from the half way line and trying to beat the whole opposition on his own
Not a team player
Diving
Macho approach trying to confront the opposition the whole time.

I’d rather keep Hirst….

He is running with the other defender. You are just wrong.

I'll remember him as one of the best strikers we've had in 20 years. When he pulls on an England shirt after a handful of appearances for ManU, Chelsea or whoever II'll probably ponder on what might have been.

He’s really not the sharpest tool in the box.

Just watch him defending corners, completely brain dead the way he acts in the box with tv cameras pointing at him.

If you prefer Hirst to Delap (a 22 year old with huge potential) I'm glad McKenna is our manager and not you.
Hirst has done fine & hopefully he can stay fit enough to lead our line next season.

Hirst did exactly the same thing, smashed into the CB very late and sent him flying and then there was a confrontation but I've not seen it mentioned at all in any threads.

That was 50/50 for me. He was running towards the keeper and the defender stepped across him. Hirst chose to keep going. Defender cried foul- as they did an awful lot.

The second incident wasn’t a yellow card at all. What annoyed me more was Pickford running at pace towards the ref - obviously he was trying to get Delap sent off. Thought that type of behaviour was supposedly being clamped down on.

Delap is very clumsy sometimes but I like his fight and determination. Too many of our players are too lightweight for the PL and are easily forced off the ball so we need stronger more physical players like him when we are promoted again.

Liam has been a great watch this year and he will continue to improve and develop with experience and good coaching/mentoring but sadly, it won’t be at Ipswich.

Yeah, like he's the only one to grab an opposition player at corners. I don't see why anyone would want to be so insulting to one of our own players. At least you choose a different one each week, who's next?

Not sure we are thinking of the same incident - this was near the halfway line, Hirst just ran into him full pelt and got a yellow card. The defender went after him and also got a yellow card.

The difference is the incident I’m referring to was literally minutes after Delap’s yellow card. This isn’t a Hirst vs Delap debate, this is purely a reckless decision by him so soon afterwards. I wasn’t surprised so many Everton players were annoyed. They all knew what he doing trying to get away with, which fortunately for him…he did.

Yep- same one. Defender stood to block his path to the keeper was how I saw it.

He wasn’t on the pitch but on the sidelines doing what subs do. I think he did try to calm Delap down as the action happened in the far corner of the r pitch close to where he was doing his warm-up stuff.
