One would assume in the days leading up to the start of todays conclave that high ranking bishop's would be saying that we really need to get the next holy father in first time. After the recent book and film doesn't leave the church looking in good light they would surely want to send out a message of unity.
But then again the church has always done whatever they wanted and if you believe some historians then just make stuff up about the past. Fascinating to see what happens. Perhaps even a complete shambles which takes weeks and months to solve. Typical of the world right now I guess.

Most modern Conclaves have only lasted two or three days.
The longest papal election (not strictly a Conclave) took nearly three years, during which some of the Cardinals died and the locals got so fed up they locked them in the building and eventually removed the roof to force a decision.

watched a really good documentary about Conclaves recently, all seems very archaic and was surprised how many of the cardinals look like famous actors

Now you've said that, some will be convexed if it doesn't.
There's a risk that the whole thing will generate more heat than light. As well as the requisite smoke, obviously.
So how will they diffuse that situation, if it arises?
I guess the Cardinals represent a spectrum of views, some obscure, and some will come under pressure to lens their vote for someone who isn't their primary candidate.

Being locked away like they are the cardinals must feel like they are in a prism

They can only vote once today, I doubt they'll get it done today.
And now, after having spent far too long looking at a chimney, they're now discussing the possibility that the cardinals have decided not to have a vote this evening...
