That would make a lot of sense to me. Bargain striker proven in the champ with similar profile to Hirst leaving us with cash to spend on additional required striker. Hirst, Emil Riis and a premium striker signing would fit the bill. Emil Riis would fit us better than Al Hamadi as 3rd striker and might just fight his way into the team.

Agree entirely good physical presence gets a few goals what's not to like especially on a free.

Yep, I mentioned him a week or so ago as one of the most intriguing free transfers from the Champ.

Has the similar profile we look for in a number 9.

Agree that Hirst, Riis and another elite Champ striker would give us plenty of depth for a Champ season.

Wonder whether we go with two with good levels of Champ experience and someone from outside the UK with higher potential.

We definitely need 3 decent options- love Hirst, I think he can cut it in the PL (as he has), but a lot of questions about whether he can stay fit for most of the season.

Will be interesting to see if they look to loan AAH out again for more game time.

Think we may try to sell him - if no decent offers, can see a loan to a lower Championship team.

Yes, I fancy that. We have to start taking punts on PL athlete-level imports with potential (even if we're not quite up to scratch on our foreign recruitment department yet) if we want to be PL ready in twelve months time.

Are we really in a position to be looking at bargains though? He’s had 1 season where he got double figures for goals and that was back in 2022. I admittedly can’t say I’ve seen him play but hope we have better targets than that.

If we can shift Al-Hamadi for a profit and bring in Riis and Ivanovic from Millwall, that will be a fantastic summer for us. Can't imagine Riis is going to sign somewhere as a starting 3rd choice though.

He's not a bargain because he's bad. He will be in demand from pretty much the entire championship season. It's like someone turning their nose up at Tuanzebe because he's available free.

I think everyone is on the page that he's a proven effective championship striker that can fight for a starting spot but most likely an excellent back-up/off the bench player that gives us depth. Recognising we will need another on top and put the savings on Riis towards a top striker.

Because he is available on a free he will demand a higher package than an equivalent ability signed for a fee.

At 23 he had played 38 Championship matches and scored 2 goals. OK, he had a good season the following year but there isn't a lot that excites me about the little I know about him. At 23, Al Hamadi has played 29 Championship matches and scored 6 goals. Many of those were played while injured too. I don't see why Riis would be seen as a better option than Al Hamadi.

As far as Championship options go, my suggestion would be Tommy Conway. Younger than Al Hamadi, bags of Championship experience and a consistent goalscoring record. I am sure he would cost but I would also be much more confident that he is an upgrade on Al Hamadi.

Conway is a decent player probably 10 millon I'd have Sargent but another striker made of glass. Ivanovic looks decent but raw.

Agree with all of that. So far Hirst hasnt managed much more than half a season in each of the last two seasons and it was nearly costly last season and probably has been costly this season.
I think we have to hedge our bets there, but we need two good quality forwards regardless anyway.
Think it feels like it might be time to make a decision on AAH. Hes 23 now and it feels unlikely there is enough there to turn him into a PL striker. If hes going to become a high end Championship forward and deliver for us, then we probably want that to happen next season.
If we dont think its going to happen next season, or happen at all, then we probably would be just as well to sell him and make sure we have some good options/clauses to protect us financially if he does later develop.

You’re right, we’re still not really in a position to turn our noses up at a bargain. But, I don’t think we will be signing a player to be a backup - instead we will be signing players who won’t look out of place in the first team and have the ability (or potential ability) to play in the PL.

If we are signing backup or bench players ten I think they will either be highly regarded young players or an experienced player like Kieffer Moore - in either case, both loans.

Just can’t see us signing an average 26yo Championship player who has yet to play in the PL.

If you are signing 2 strikers one of them is going to be back up in our system by definition. Riis is proven at champ level and will fight for a place. He's a good player. Whether he can force his way is debatable. Also the way we play is back up gets game time. He would be fighting for either a starting place or the off the bench role. 3 fighting for two primary roles. Will be a 50 game+ season.
