Prime Minister questions should on 11:43 - May 21 with 1648 views | bluelagos | Shame Farage won't be in parliament to push Starmer on the detail of his immigration plans. I for one am totally amazed that he's on holiday rather than actually representing his Clacton constituents.

Has Farage actually turned up in Clacton yet? Edit: Is Yvette Cooper (Balls) morphing into Ernest Borgnine? Looks that way. [Post edited 21 May 12:18]

Maybe the whips office have advised him not to attend parliament just as they advised him not to hold constituency surgeries? It's probably for the best that he doesn't bother to fulfil any of his roles as an MP, and stick to telling it like it is.

Surprised you haven't gone with that as this morning's attack, the cost of living crisis is a bit old hat now, especially with the economy improving (and improving faster than expected). But anyway, you do you.

Quite a good joke from Starmer. "And he points out that Anderson is standing in for Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, who is not here, and who was not in the Commons yesterday. Farage is on holiday. Referring to one of the UK-EU deal proposals, Starmer says Farage was “first through the e-gates”. This generates a lot of laughter."

the e-gates that have been constantly delayed, aren't even being used yet and aren't expected to be rolled out until October at earliest. Still it is a good jest.
Prime Minister questions should on 13:01 - May 21 with 1327 views | DJR | Doesn't sound like Badenoch came out of it well, which is par for the course. This from Chris Mason "All the talk in the Commons press gallery is about the Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch seemingly not hearing the prime minister’s winter fuel payment U-turn. Within moments of Sir Keir Starmer announcing the change, she asked if there was going to be a change. MPs and journalists looked around trying to work out why she was asking the prime minister to announce something he had just announced. Her team insists she was asking him to admit it plainly and spell out specifically that the government would be looking again at thresholds — which he did later say explicitly. But Badenoch’s apparent lack of fleet of foot will not settle the nerves of Tory MPs who stare at opinion polls which are in oblivion territory." And even the Telegraph is now publishing articles doubting her. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/05/21/charts-show-kemi-badenoch-days-t "The charts that show Badenoch’s days as Tory leader are numbered Neither bookmakers, the public or party members are confident she will be in charge by the next general election"

I know the choice of leader for what’s left of the tories was thin pickings, but the idiots seem to have chosen the thinnest picking of all. Maybe Badenoch will grow into the job and I can’t see the value of booting her out if they can’t find better from the sorry shower that remain in the HoC. They can’t even parachute in to a safe constituency somebody with a brain cell like Mordaunt because they don’t have any safe seats. They’re toast. Finished.
Prime Minister questions should on 13:27 - May 21 with 1175 views | DJR | Sound reply from Starmer here. Near the end of PMQs Rupert Lowe, the independent MP originally elected as Reform UK, asked Keir Starmer about the prison sentence given to Lucy Connolly, who was jailed for 31 months for inciting racial hatred last year. Yesterday she lost her appeal against the sentence. Lowe asked: Does the prime minister agree that imprisoning Lucy Connolly, a young mother with a 12-year-old daughter for one foolish social media post, soon deleted, is clearly not an efficient or fair use of prison? Starmer replied: Sentencing is a matter for our courts, and I celebrate the fact that we have independent courts in this country. I am strongly in favour of free speech, we’ve had free speech in this country for a very long time and we protect it fiercely. But I am equally against incitement to violence against other people. I will always support the action taken by our police and courts to keep our streets and people safe. [Post edited 21 May 13:29]

Badenoch is of the same school of political jousting as Sunak. Both have their prepared 'banter' and are utterly unable to think on their feet or improvise. Starmer for all his faults is a pretty competent parliamentary performer.

Had Connolly's surname been Khan and calling for similar to what she called for, Lowe would be bemoaning the fact that she hadn't been deported. [Post edited 21 May 15:26]
