Everything seems to be rather doom and gloom at the moment. I am trying myself to become more mindful about all of the good that the UK has to offer, and to recognise how lucky one is to live here. Of course it isn't perfect, but nowhere is.
Let's make a list of the good things about living in the UK. I'll make a start:
- Healthcare which is free at the point of access.
- Access to plentiful and immediate food and water.
- No extreme weather.
- Varied scenery and landscapes.

Culture that borrows from and enhances all manner of people and places - music, literature and media that is seen as the gold standard around the world
Food and drink standards as well as the variety everyone mentions
The waves on invasion that have shaped the landscape, language, DNA of the people. Being able to walk through cities and see things layered upon each other from Roman roads to cutting edge technology, and American tourists turning up and still not quite getting it. |  |

1. The countryside is green.
2. The diverse landscape. Counties are so different, each with its own character. The coast.
3. Food - you can get the best of everything here, domestic or foreign with the exception of bread. The French know how to do that best
4. London - the most interesting city in the world.
5. History - so much to see and learn.
6. Sport. We invented most of them and embrace them
7. Pageantry - yes, I know Albert invented most of it but we don’t half do it well
8. Writing and the Arts. We are good at those and have been for generations
9. The ability to laugh at ourselves, albeit diminished, and to challenge, hence the chances of fascists ever taking control as they are likely to in the US is minimal.
10. Music. So creative.
11. I can see my club Ipswich Town play.
12. Kindness. Most people are kind in this country, despite what the appalling media and dismals might say.

Great call on bacon sarnies. You just can’t get proper smoked bacon abroad. How the Americans have the brass neck to call that cremated crispy streaky rubbish ‘bacon’ is a crime that should go to the international courts - if Trump recognised them.
