This would seem a rather stupid thing to say openly to a person(s) he’s never met before.

Not calling your friend a liar but maybe misinterpreted after a few sherbets?

I hope he’s here next year, he seems to be a bit of cheat code at championship level.

Not a massive surprise is it? He’s had a pretty lousy season with us, we’ve been resoundingly relegated and he’s not been able to force his way into the starting lineup on a regular basis. When he has he’s been a bit unlucky on a few occasions when we’ve had red cards and he’s been the one sacrificed before half time. He looked visibly annoyed the last time. I’m sure this season hasn’t gone quite as he might’ve dreamed it would when he signed.

Probably just got a bit caught up in the moment with hundreds of Sunderland fans blowing smoke up his backside on a day they’ve been promoted to the premier league.

If they want him back I’m sure there’s a price at which that’s possible. Otherwise he’ll stay here and I wouldn’t bet against him playing a big role next season, but he’ll likely still face the same challenges as we know McKenna likes to have a lot of options in those areas, and he’s probably going to have Szmodics & Philogene as competition before we even consider Broadhead and any new additions.

It was more an issue he got roaring drunk, had a fight with SheffU hoolies and spent the night in the cells.

given that he is a lightweight and Sheffield lads are pretty big units, more likely he spent the night in hospital !!

I’d do anything for him to return too.

Well there it is - out in the open. I always suspected you weren't a Town fan, so it's Sunderland is it.

Are we sure it wasn’t Ragetti from Pirates of the Caribbean?

Never seen the two of them in the same room.

All very valid.

Personally hope he’s here next year.

So do I. As long as he wants to be here and is 100% committed. That goes for any player or member of staff, including the manager.

It's one of those situations we really can't lose on tbh. I think he is a top top level champ player (regardless of his underwhelming top level season) and will rip it up for us next season if he stays. Which I hope he does.

If Sunderland are that desperate for him to return ( and I don't see anyone else coming in for him ) then we make a little profit and get more funds in.

Not a big deal - why shouldn’t he go to see his mates!

With regards to saying about going back, it’s very possible that he was saying nothing more than he’d love to be there to be part of what the6 were enjoying, etc, etc. Doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to be with us.

And besides, why would they want to by him? They need strength and experience - like we did last summer. If they buy the likes of Clarke they’ll suffer the same fate as we did.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Oh I doubt they'll want him after his performances this season. But it's more the brazen, mercenary nature of his comments that disappointed me the most. We gave him his PL shot and there's no desire to right the wrongs of this year.

Wow! That's a stretch.

He has said he would love to return to the club that he had success at and who gave him his chance when it didn't work out at Spurs. Nowhere has he said he has no desire to "right the wrongs of this year." What are they anyway? Not being selected for 28 of the league matches this season? Only single-handedly winning a match in the FA Cup? I am quite sure he is as disappointed as we are with the way the season turned out for him.

His comments are far from mercenary.

I don't mind too much but would want it to be one of:

we sell to Sunderland at least for what we paid but with clauses too;

he stays, plays, excels and is ready to be a key player in another shot at the Premier League with us.

You really have to feel sorry for those brought into the team last summer and January. They have had to try to hit the ground running in the Premier League where we really have looked out of our depth collectively.
