The quicker Delap goes the better 08:38 - May 31 with 1450 views | Cheltenham_Blue | He'll be a miss, but I'm sick to death of opposing managers talking about our player (Marescsa, Moyes). The media hawking him about, and the constant speculation. The one thing I hope that Ashton was talking about when he said 'very well protected' was the right to add clauses to any sale. Like I said, a miss, but I don't feel we can start preparing for next year properly until he is gone.

The quicker Delap goes the better on 08:51 - May 31 with 1335 views | RIPbobby | Yeah I think he will go very soon. Along with him most of our premier league hype and we will become plucky Ipswich from the championship again. I think this will suit us not being under the microscope. Of course we wish Liam the best of luck for the future and I'm sure we will all keep a close eye on the U21 champs this summer.

I thought it’d be yesterday but … Sooner it’s done the sooner we can move on I’m quite intrigued and excited with regards to building again for the Champ

The quicker Delap goes the better on 09:34 - May 31 with 1113 views | ArnieM | Disclaimer… None of this is Delap’s fault, ok! CB : I agree with you. Delap will go on to do good things I’m sure, but part of me feels his one season with us and jumping ship as he’s done, ( yes,yes I know he had to, maybe?) , but part of it feels like a slap in the face for this club, who gave him his chance and developed to his current level. I think he’d have jumped ship, even if we’d stayed up. The lure of the big club, vast sums of money would have been too strong. But ever since the day he burst onto the scene in a Town shirt, ALL weve had to put up with is daily media reports, suggestions etc …” when Delap leaves Ipswich”…. “Who will he play for next season”,…..” the next Harry Kane”, etc, etc etc… FFS he’s a Town player, sod off. There are other players in that team, and not once did I hear those motd tw8t’s ever discuss Ipswich Town in any bloody PL fixture. So now he’s gone, and frankly thank fcuk for that because I’m sick of hearing about Liam Delap, especially given he’d faded almost completely over the second half of the season for this team, yet still euphoria surrounding him persists. But yes, It’ll be interesting to see how he progresses amongst the so called ,Chelsea superstars/rich. Good luck Liam…..

I think it was more a case that the whole team faded - and him with it. What I will say is that Delap’s got an awful lot to learn. He has terrific potential. Absolute animal of a player. Welcome to bruise central if you are marking him. He will play for England soon. But positionally, when to hold, pass etc (decision making), discipline, using his physical size to best advantage are all things that experience and good coaching will bring. I wish him well but the sooner he’s gone the better for all concerned. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This mini early window opens tomorrow until 10th June. I’d imagine it will be announced tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Once it became public that his agent had told the likes of Man United & Everton that he’s not going there it was clearly wrapped up, you wouldn’t do that if there’s any negotiation still to be had as it weakens your position. He’s had his medical as well, it’s likely all done and dusted but just waiting for the window to open to formalise with the FA.
The quicker Delap goes the better on 10:23 - May 31 with 948 views | OldFart71 | Well he can't be gone until tomorrow at the earliest and yes unfortunately I was one of the people that posted on here about Delap. Wish I hadn't really, but hey ho. To my mind it's more important that if we can we get a replacement in and if possible before the Delap deal goes through otherwise clubs selling to us will see £30 million signs flashing (yes I know it's only going to be around a £7-10.5 million profit) . I noted that MA said that he thought another player would go also. I wonder if that player is Hutchinson ? I think maybe that's why we bought Philogene as a replacement or am I totally wrong ?

While Hutchinson is a candidate for departure, I'm not sure he is the only one, or even the most likely. The FBs and CBs are just as likely to attract suitors. Think Philogene was simply a player that McKenna wanted and had been chasing for some time. Your Delap thread was unfortunate in that the question was read as a statement.

I stand corrected, per Phil’s story the medical is Monday. I interpreted the below on BBC as it having being done, but in Phil we trust. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cx2qe069zl1o Either way it’s a when not if innit. Hopefully wrapped up very early next week. [Post edited 31 May 10:58]

We went down, we can't expect him to show us loyalty when we've not managed to stay in the Premier League. Whether he'd have left if we'd stayed up or not is another matter, McKenna and someone from the Athletic both intimated a few weeks back that when he was weighing up his options he was seriously considering the option of staying here which suggests it wouldn't have been a given that he'd go. For a club like us, if we unearth a quality player we are likely to lose them though. And there's nothing new about that for us, even when we were one of the best teams in the country. Losing the likes of Talbot to Arsenal, Wark to Liverpool, Muhren to United, all at a time when we'd been amongst the top sides for the best part of a decade. We're not a big club and never have been, we're a medium sized club that has overachieved at times. There are others above us in the food chain and that means we'll lose our best players to them eventually. The media furore around Delap has been irritating but that's the nature of the Prem and a 24 hour news cycle. We've had it with some of our incoming transfers too (Philogene twice springs to mind) and it's part and parcel of the game, not something Delap can really control. He's come here, done well in a team that's struggled, and his stock has risen as a result. Best of luck to him going forward I say. [Post edited 31 May 15:50]
