Really pleased for all the pensioners that will be receiving the fuel payment

But please for once tell the Truth Rachel

BIG FAT LIE - We are bringing back the fuel payment because we have stabilised the economy. If this is true it didn’t take long to sort out the 22 Billion black hole you have been banging on about for the last 10 months

BIG FAT TRUTH - We knew if we didn’t reintroduce payment our chances of winning any elections between now and the General election would be badly affected.

Why are all Politicians liars?

I will wait for all the Labour voters comment ‘ yes but our party doesn’t lie as mush as the previous government

HOW ABOUT NOT LYING AT ALL. COME ON LETS SEE THAT PLAN FOR CHANGE

I suppose I should really keep up but the almost daily anti Labour threads can be a little tiresome. Whilst a dyed in the wool lefty bumfester myself, it hasn't escaped my notice that Kier and co aren't really knocking it out of the park. So if they are testing my patience, I understand you would be feeling that X10.
That said, I think Kier has had some successes. I think he's stood up to Trump about as much as the "special relationship" allows and has shown some statesman like leadership over the Ukraine "coaltion of the willing".
Perhaps some balance occasionally wouldn't go amiss.
I would also ask who generally gets your x on the ballot paper?
Are you a dyed in the wool tory? Lib Dem? Reform? Or just anyone but Labour?
Be interesting to know, as just posting anti Labour rhetoric is a bit dull.
That said, it's a broad church here, but just to know where you do stand rather than where you don't would perhaps help the reader to understand your reasoning a little more.
Other wise it's just the usual 3 or 4 pages of people digging you out for saying something routinely superficial.
So come on mate. Where do you stand?

He (I’m assuming they’re a ‘he’) was too busy criticising Kieran McKenna at that time. It seems like he has a need to obsess over someone for some strange reason. Not that Starmer/Reeves are doing it for me, but I don’t start a thread on them pretty much every day.

This from John Crace in the Guardian made me laugh.

The chancellor was out and about in north London trying to smooth things over on Monday lunchtime. When is a U-turn not a U-turn? When it’s a Rachel U-turn. It was like this. She had originally made the spending cut to partially fill the black hole in the country’s finances. Just one of those things.

But then she had miraculously found that the economy was doing far better than expected so she was able to reverse her decision. She couldn’t say how the country was doing better – she has yet to find anyone to back up this suggestion – but we should take her word for it.

Any connection to the withdrawal of the WFA being unpopular was a coincidence. She was sorry but not sorry. Yeahbutnobutyeahbutno. Everywhere she went, lay the telltale sounds of burnt rubber.

You could tell that Rachel wasn’t having one of her best days. She looked confused. Embarrassed even. As if she couldn’t quite believe some of the nonsense coming out of her mouth. A feeling confirmed by the fact she was nowhere to be seen when it was time for her to make a statement to the Commons. She had just checked her diary and had found there was a flurry of subsequent engagements.

Nor was anyone else senior in the Treasury to be found to take her place. They too had found themselves unavoidably detained elsewhere. Appointments at the doctor. Unexpected open heart surgery. Anything. Any excuse will do. “I’ve got a very important lunch. I can’t cancel.” “But the statement isn’t until 4.15.” “Ah, but it’s a very long lunch. And then I have a coffee.”

What goes around, comes around. In his time as head of the Resolution Foundation, Torsten Bell would have had a thing or two to say about the cuts to the WFA. None of them good. There was a Torsten once who didn’t think killing pensioners was a good idea. But that Torsten was very much last year’s Torsten. He has moved on since then. Wised up.

But when he became a fresh-faced MP last year – Torsten looks about 12 – he was immediately promoted to the most junior role in the Treasury. One step up from the receptionist. So there was an air of inevitability when he was forced to take Rachel’s place.

Which largely repeats the main point of the op, but far more eloquently .

I hadn’t appreciated how much of a self-inflicted balls up they were going to make. It should have been easy. The Tories were (and still are) abysmal on every single level, lacking meaningful leadership and were annihilated at the ballot box. It’s not as if there aren’t hundreds of things that need fixing first before they go round making more problems for themselves.

Whoever’s advising them needs sacking asap. I know I’m not saying anything new but they, and Starmer and Reeves especially, don’t appear to have any political nouse. There’s no overarching policy framework; everything seems disconnected and sometimes contradictory. They’re alienating more of their own supporters weekly. They’re seemingly unable to dictate the narrative and are letting Reform set the agenda (which our largely right wing media are happy to make the most of). It’s very disappointing so far when the country needs better.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

It was a catastrophic policy, yes. From a supposedly Labour government.

Nothing grown up about them.

Changing a bad policy is a grown up thing to do.

Why do you not see that???

But it’s the reason behind the change that I was discussing

Labour win the Runcorn by election convincingly and the fuel payment doesn’t get changed

The Policy changed because of Labour fear of particularly Reform not because they believed it was right to change it

They changed the policy because they were getting pelters from Labour supporters all over the country about it as well as PIP changes

It has nothing to do with Farage. He’s a racist grifter who preys on the disaffected and the stupid.

Reforms policies do not stand up to any scrutiny although they aren’t really being asked about them at the moment.

I don't remember starting threads on the Tories. I made a few posts in existing threads. Not really the same is it? You are obsessed.

Labour have been underwhelming, we get it.

But it is the Labour Party in charge.

They also said pre-election we are going to change the face of politics forever no more sleaze etc

They like to believe they are but they are no different to any previous government or party

Yep still you never mention other parties.
Yet still you never say what your solutions are, or who you want in power.

One of the first financial decisions this government took was to resolve a "dispute" with the mineworkers' pension fund, costing £1.5B. One could argue slashing the winter fuel allowance helped pay for this.

Now that's out of the way, it can start the winter fuel allowance again.
0
Just tell the truth Rachel on 10:08 - Jun 10 with 239 viewsOldFart71

As a pension but also a voter what Labour fails to realise is it's not just the Winter Fuel Payment that has dragged Labour down.
Stupid net zero policies which means we are paying the highest energy costs in the World.
In turn this is probably one reason Labour are having to reverse the wfp, because if energy costs were lower the need to help pensioners would be less or not needed at all.
What voters cry out for no matter which Party is in power is truth and sadly we haven't had that for a very long time.
Of course there's a need for a certain amount of keeping the public away from sensitive situations but saying things that are clearly untrue based on what a member of that Party has clearly stated before does nothing for the credibility of a Government of whatever colour.
