If McKenna didn't trust Burgess to do the role, there is no way he is going to trust Baggott either.
That said, I liked the look of Baggott when I did see him play and I hope he will, in time, make it with us. |  |

It is clear McKenna ranked Greaves and O'Shea ahead of Burgess. Unless I have misunderstood the OP's intention in their wording of "who will be back up". I'm not sure we buy someone to be 'backup' to Greaves but if we are still keen on the 2 for every position mantra then it'll either be a younger player like Baggott (if not now... then when tbh?) or we'd get in a senior pro in.
Or we sign someone equal to Greaves, but who would be prepared to fight for the place. Unlike Burg who at nearly 30, wanted regular football. | | | |

Yeah, he obviously trusted him. In a strange quirk of fate, it’s not impossible we could effectively do a player swap with Swansea and bring in Harry Darling, who’s also out of contract. Russell Martin wants to take him to Rangers apparently, but I’m sure other clubs will be looking at him. I’ve obviously no idea if we are though. |  |

Wonder how many more we will lose now? Ashton or McKenna alluded to " a couple" leaving. But it's starting to feel like this is going to end up a bigger rebuild (on the assumption we lose Delap, Axel, Burgess, Omari, Davis, Szmodics, & Broadhead, who have all been mentioned as potential departures), than has been suggested by McKenna. I hope we don't lose many more because for every new player we bring in as replacement is another settling in period the team has to go through and we really need to hit the ground running from the first whistle. | |

I agree with you. Once he returned from injury ( and Burgess was dumped bavk to the bench having played really well in that period of " cover,"), I thought Greaves looked totally out of his depth on many occasions. Maybe he's just a good championship player, and struggled with the step up (like do many did) | |

Totally agree, the over-obsession by McK on certain players like Ioannidis, Broja, Downes, Philogene and Latte Lath last season has resulted in us failing to sign anyone fit for purpose. We can't have last minute desperate signings like Ben Godfrey this time, what a joke that was.
Next season is imperative to hit the ground running, not waiting for more last minute signings to "gel" and lose ground. Pre-season is also important to get players up to speed, look what a disjointed team brought us last season.
If we lose Tuanzebe as well then we need at least 5-6 signings at the back, CM and a 9 to replace Delap at the very least. I can't see where these players are coming from. | | | |

I wouldn’t think we’ll lose all 3 of Omari, Broadhead & Szmodics.
Delap was inevitable. Burgess & Axel are out of contract and that’s the risk. I can see 1 more big ticket departure like Omari, O’Shea or Davis for big money. Aside from that I wouldn’t expect too many to leave from those considered regulars. | | | |
