… of interest to Town and feeling is we can offer more money than Burnley to tempt him back down to the Championship.

According to Alan Nixon.

Would be a top top signing.

Doubt it. Who in their right mind would accept Championship wages if PL ones are on offer?

Personally can’t see any mileage in this rumour. If he doesn’t get a move to an established PL club, he’ll stay put I reckon

burnley seem to be up against it with psr, so money is probably tighter than for us.

that said, if everton or west ham firm up their interest, he'll end up there

Eh?

I may have been tired, but I’m sure that post said we’d paid, not bid £15m for HH last night.

Again don’t think we have a chance, big prem clubs interested.

The only Muff in Town.

I agree its likely just a rumour, the only possible temptation would be a massive signing on payment at the age of 29 and a guaranteed first team place.

That is like you say, as long as no interest from other Prem teams is real.

Probably not, but the Tweeter in question is usually pretty accurate.

Certainly does now….

Either I was tired and mis-read it, or it’s been edited.

If we've made him a priority target and pull out all the stops, he is one we could get. By that I mean say a 4 year deal as a nailed on starter on very, very good Champ money and a big signing on fee with a promotion rise if we go up. I can't imagine a West Ham or similar are going to be making him a key signing or a top priority. Chances are we will be swapping places with Burnley next summer too so he needs to think longer term than the next 12 months if it is a case of us or them.

Gut feel is that Nixon has good contacts in the north west but probably an agent looking to a get few more quid out of Burnley rather than anything too firm from us. You’d have thought Burnley would fight tooth and nail to keep him given his performances last year.

Given he's already been linked to West Ham, we are an odd choice of club from his agent if they are just looking to extract a few more quid from Burnley.

Your post above lays out why that might be attractive - longer terms, higher wages, guaranteed starting place etc. Made up numbers but he might have a 2-year offer at £30k from West Ham and a 4-year offer at £20k from us (with promotion uplift etc.).

Not really, favourites for promotion and known to have a bit of cash to splash. As an agent you'd ideally want a few clubs linked, so one expected to be at the top of the Champ with money to burn would be a pretty obvious one I'd have thought.

I imagine agents will be linking us with their players all across the summer.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

True - thanks for pointing out my inconsistency there!

He would be a cracking signing for us. Effectively a £10m+ midfielder for 'free' (in terms of transfer fee). I think we could offer a really compelling deal to him. And he's played 100+ games at Prem level - one we know can make the step up, as a really good squad player at least.

Plus you would imagine Ashton would've had dealings with him and his agent from their time at Bristol City...
