I'm not sure KM would agree? Its quite a departure from our transfer policy. Ashton would probably like the 'outside of the box thinking' though.

We did, a decision made on data. Sometimes you have to trust your gut, it's a batting wicket.

In fairness Gill said theyâd have bowled as well but either way we wouldnât have dominated like this. Great to see a proper tier 1 team play here tbh before our pub sloggers get out on Sunday and Monday twice. Australian tour is frankly looking a bit ridiculous. I know theyâre aging a bit but plenty in the tank to win every test within 3-4 days.

Our batting is fine, if a bit hit and miss. Our attack is toothless. Lacks variety, pace and quality. Borad and Anderson are still head and shoulders above the rest on show. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Bring back Jimmy Anderson...... (n/t) on 21:44 - Jun 20 with 1265 views | DBaldy | If two of Atkinson, Wood or Archer were fit I doubt this would be a discussion. Carse and Tongue are not Test quality.
Bring back Jimmy Anderson...... (n/t) on 22:17 - Jun 20 with 1204 views | BlueForYou | Crazy decision to put India in. Handed the momentum & initiative straight to them. They played superbly. We have the bowlers, but not even Jimmy Anderson can take wickets on these dead flat Bazball pitches! Sam Cook & Matthew Potts should play. They are used to bowling long spells match after match. Tongue looks out of his depth & could snap in two at any moment. Your fifth bowler bowling 21 overs says it all. A very bad day at the Test.

Obviously a poor decision to bowl on a batting wicket and a very very hot and tiring day ,I really can't understand the thinking and don't care what the stats say . We now need to play out of our skins to stop them going 1 up in this important series.

WG Grace, âWhen you win the toss, bat. If you are in doubt, think about it, then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague, then bat.â

as I get bored of repeating since 2019, Archer will never be fit enough to play test cricket again, he's done in that format, we need to look beyond him to find other quality bowlers, rather than pin our hopes on it will all be fine when hes back. Wood will always last 2 tests per series. only 1 if the 2nd match is back to back.

I get England like to chase but the lack of flexibility here baffles. Flat pitch on a scotching day with barely a cloud in the sky. Bat. Maybe as the pitch bakes it might crack and offer some assistance to the bowlers, so bat.

Carse provides, height, bounce, pace and has a good action, the more he bowls at this level the better he will get. Tongue I like the look of, he bowls quickly and bowls a heavy ball, he just needs games at this level. With both these bowlers they are very much at the start of their international careers, they need time to acclimatise to the step up in level to find themselves. Bashir is another, heâs learning to bowl on the international stage, but the way he bowls and his variation in flight reminds me of Nathan Lyon. Letâs see how they all develop over this series, it will be a biggest test against these quality Indian batters. [Post edited 21 Jun 13:56]

Why on earth did Pope just play at that? Get your eye back in again ffs, leave everything at this point, just push singles here and there...

Agreed - but then you see Brook come down the wicket and think like a bit of that. Live by the sword die by the sword, as has been said these next two series need to produce results to justify the approach.

I really loathe this bazball stuff. The way Smith just gave away his wicket, and Brook trying his best too to do the same. Ben Foakes is the best keeper we have by a mile, if not the world, but just because he doesn't launch the ball into the stands time and again, he won't get a look in. Fair enough for the shorter forms of the game, but we don't treat some of our players, test cricket or our opponents very respectfully. Same with Jack Leach. There is merit in being steady and tying up an end, but they seem locked in with Bashir. Looks like Sam Cook will be discarded as well. line and length and county championship performances don't count anymore. It also feels like as soon as Pope makes one poor score, Bethell will be in. I will be pleased when Stokes and McCollum have moved on, however exciting most people find it, it's not test match cricket for me. [Post edited 22 Jun 14:27]

Was wondering if Crawley fails again whether Smith would move up to open and add Foakes in as âkeeper. Itâs scandalous Foakes isnât in the mix, his face clearly doesnât fit and player like Crawleyâs does.

Your point clearly made there, not just a 100 missed but puts the game back into Indiaâs hands.
