https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c1k84zyml2no

I look forward to Sky or TNT trying to interview a player who has just been sent off with the player telling them to ‘f**k off’ live on air.

Can I be honest..... the vast majority of footballers don't have much of interest to say anyway.... and if they did, they'd get in trouble quickly with the authorities and the club. It's this continuous drive to push things further when it's not necessary.
I'm truly getting fed up with football.
Love it if a p1ssed off substituted player unleashed an an F-bomb and called the gaffer a w@nker... but it won't happen.

No chance of that happening. They always call the gaffer a C**t.

People are getting excited about the idea of mid-game, pitch-side interviews, but it's nothing new.

I need to turn out the clip of Bobby Robson being interviewed mid-game and missing a goal during the short segment.

Who do they think this is for the benefit of? Who actually gives a monkeys about interviews with footballers & managers? Pre, post, and now mid match interviews all full of the same inane questions and stock answers for a few people to analyse to death whilst the vast majority of people pay no attention whatsoever.

Wasn’t that a one-off during a European game? Anglia TV ballsing it up.

If anything I'm under-thinking it. Is that a thing?

Don’t think it’s a case of footballers not having anything interesting to say - but rather, they have to be very careful what they say in case it upsets the fans.

Most of the 'interviewers' just make a banal statement and expect the interviewee to agree with it.
Edited due to crap keyboard skills.

“Why can’t we just watch the match?”

I’m assuming because people have attention spans of a gnat these days and need to be ‘entertained’ on top of the match. Next up will be splitting the game into quarters for people who struggle to sit still, timeouts for ad breaks and extended breaks where they wheel out sh*t mini concerts like in the Super Bowl. Also look out for much more about ‘fan experiences’, as if the match is only a side show.

Being able to just watch a match will belong in the past.

These aren’t massive changes in their own right, but it’s a continuation along the path that’s taking us to all the nonsense they have in the US.

Non-fans who they want to attract to make more money off the broadcasts. It’s all about building the size of the audience by increasing the breadth of the offering so people will still watch even if the match is crap. I suspect.

It's also an opportunity to stand the subbed player in an open triangle of boarding covered in sponsor's names.

I've been to a Major League Baseball game in the US and a National Hockey League game in Canada. Christ, the amount of stuff going on that wasn't the actual game itself on both occasions was insane! It made me think North Americans don't much care for the sport itself and just need to be constantly entertained.

On the flip side, I'm quite a big fan of the Hundred, which is doing great stuff to get young people, especially young girls, into cricket. So maybe they're on to something

Either way, player interviews after being subbed is nonsense

Might get some over-honest opinion regarding managers from just-subbed players. Look forward to seeing someone hooked after 20 minutes with their team four down giving their thoughts.
