Going to have a battle on his hands for a starting spot this season. Joao Pedro joining him from Brighton for £60m - does that offer a better reflection or Delap's true value with them being similar profiles of player?

He'll be back on loan in January.

Seem to remember Joao Pedro doesn't like playing number 9 so maybe Chelsea have other ideas

Id be fairly confident that he will be there starting 9 come the start of the season. Jackson cant seem to get through a game without being sent off and Pedro has come in to replace Nkunku/Felix and the various other players Chelsea have had who can be a hybrid striker/10.

Seen a lot of our fans already on X saying it was a bad move because of this, Delap will be fine. Plenty of football for him to play.

I think he was daft even going to chelsea. Of all the clubs hes had after him he chooses that Basket Case of a club who accumulate players, like stagnant stones gather moss.

I agree, I think he's even going to surpass most expectations, the kid is bloody good and seems to have no fear. Without being too disrespectful he reminds me a bit of Cole Palmer, seems to live and breath football and not a lot else.

Yes, but, Enzo Maresca was his youth coach/manager at Man City and Cole Palmer was the the midfielder who was delivering the defence splitting passes to him as they progressed through the age groups at City, they had a great understanding on the pitch and Enzo Maresca knows how to get the best out of both of them. I think this will turn out to be the second best move Liam Delap has made after getting himself noticed playing regular first team football at Town.

I'm not sure.

He is playing for a manager who knows him well, consistently gives young players a chance, they are in the champions league meaning there is chance for more games and is a clear pathway to the England squad if he is even half decent. I thought it was the correct choice.

Really?
- Joins established top 6 club - they have only finished outside top 6 twice in 11 years
- Has a good relationship with Maresca, who is stablizing the club and building a really good young side.
- Current centre forward (Jackson) was not bought by Maresca and has struggled
- Delap has a good playing relationship with Cole Palmer having come through the City youth setup
- Champions league footy
- Positions him well for potential England call up

The only other club he probably would have got Champions League footy is Spurs, and they are truly a basket case of a club

Yes, let's do that rather than labelling it a daft move within weeks when he's already played a few games and bagged a goal and an assist.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jackson goes on a season loan to someone like Inter or Dortmund. Best move possible for Delap this summer.

I find it weird how invested people are in it all. He's gone. He was here for a season and barely saw that out as Hirst was given the nod towards the end of the season (presumably because we knew Delap was off).

I also find it strange how desperate people are to find any reason to disparage the move when there's a bunch or reasons it may be a sensible move for the guy - "big 6" club, CL football, existing relationship with both players and manager, they give out long contracts on decent money, and most important of all they aren't sure on their centre forward.

If anything I think Pedro will be seen as bit of an attacking utility man (10, LW and striker) and says to me that they aren't singing another big name striker which is good news for Delap. He will battle it out with Jackson and Pedro will fill in when needed.

I think he will be absolutely fine as he has already shown.

Pedro more of a false 9 type striker but £50/60M is A LOT of money for him. Good business by Brighton to get rid of a player who didn't look great last year and was walking a disciplinary tightrope most of the time.

Of the three I think Jackson is the one who might be in a bit of trouble.

Yep great business.

How much cash have Chelsea given Brighton over the last few years ? Great player Pedro but as you, he seems to fall out with everyone.

I still can't quite work out how he didn't get sent off at Portman Road. He'd have got a red card in rugby for what he did.

Desperately hoping for former players who've been good players for us to fail is deeply, deeply weird and a bit tragic.

Of course get hadn't. My point is simply thst hell have his work cut to establish himself at Chelsea. I wish him all the best, I really do, but I honestly think he could have gone to other top 6 clubs that were interested in him, and had a better chance of establishing himself, that's all. He wants a senior Engkand call up fiesnt he, but the manager said he needs to be in the PL
(tick) and playing regularly (not so sure he'll get that after the honeymoon period is over, but I really DO hope he does).

As for the no doubt, gaslighting comments from posters such as bluebadger and herbivore, well, they're wasting their time because I blocked them months ago along with their other gaslighting buddies, and I can't see anything they post. The forum is a lot more pleasant without them, thankfully.

Falsely accusing people of gaslighting you when you can't even see their posts is a very weird and, frankly, quite unpleasant thing to do.

There has obviously beena few through the halls of PR who shall we say have been less than great for the club. Being on the treatment table and topping up their pension pot at the expense of the club whilst giving very little in return.
But alternatively there are many who we owe a debt of gratitude to. Have made themselves heroes and go down as greats in the history of our club.
Liam doesn't quite hit the hero status as Omari wouldn't either should he go.
But that doesn't mean we shouldn't wish them well and who wouldn't go to another job with better prospects and an immediate large increase in their take home pay,
I didn't have any qualms leaving the old lawn mowers in Stowmarket to get a job down at I.C.I. as it was then.
You have to look after yourself and your family and anyone who thinks differently should give their head a wobble.
