We would have been promoted back to the Premier League in 04/05 if Royle had any tactical savvy and a more mobile defender than De Vos - who had the turning circle of a bus.

Luke Chambers was an incredibly average, low end Championship/League One player, that became far too gobby and influential at the club. Same with Skuse.

Doesn't deserve to be tagged a legend of the club at all, way behind recent heros who have left like Luongo, Harness, Burgess etc. There is a reason he wasn't given a position formal or ambassadorial under the new management and Skuse manages a pub team. Both got far too big for their own boots and did marvellous job trotting out the 'little old Ipswich' line that kept us thinking they were irreplaceable..when in reality, we're a top Championship/lower table Premiership club in size and nature. Their exit interviews were cringe and came across a little bitter. Good riddence to both schemers.

Shame that he lingers around the current players, like David Brent post Wernham Hogg. Saw a video of him training with Morsy on Instagram...Gareth helping David Brent do sit ups came to mind. Just strange.

Paul Cook also did a great job and made a lot of ballsy decisions, ruthlessly clearing the decks. He also signed players who would become foundational in our success...Chaplin, Morsy, Burgess, Hladky, Walton, Burns etc..With time he would have gotten it right, but he'd have been replaced in the Championship, ala Paul Warne at Derby.

Our youth development has been exceptionally poor for decades, long predating the category 1/2 conversation.

The only premier league-quality player we have produced this millennium is Darren Bent.

I think the only way Cook would have got us up was if every other strong club had been promoted so there was no competition.

Paul Cook did a good job in bringing in some good players, but did a p1ss poor one of managing them lol.

Hirst’s just signed a new deal, so I’m sorry but can’t oblige you with a downie on that one, though it’d have been a good effort a few hours ago!

Edit - and you can add 3rd keeper/coach David Button to that now too.

Worst opinion on this thread yet (and Herbie's Magilton comments are bad for him).

Cook was a fking charlatan who failed twice despite having an enormous budget for League 1. You also ignore the context of the club Chambers was holding together.

Without doubt Chambers is a club legend - the fact that he would not get anywhere near the first team squad now is totally irrelevant.

No one over the age of 30 should be allowed in the North Lower.

Pension them off elsewhere, make it unreserved seating, no season tickets and £10 per game for youth only.

Darren Ambrose came through at the same time and had a decent career, agood chunk of it in the Prem. Woolfie and Flynn Downes more recently.

Is there a time-limit to this comp? If so, looks like Herbivore's the winner on -15 for his Magic-slating.

If not - I won't be buying either of this season's shirts, the sponsor's name is so oversized it's mega-irritating.

Pre-season under-21 friendlies are irrelevant unless there is a thirty something who is on the fringes of the first team included in the starting line up.

Legend he may be, but Matt Holland along with Herman Hreidarsson screwed us over by refusing the big money transfers they were offered.

With the cash from those two we would not have gone into admin.

though it's probably fair to say he got a bit lucky rather than being premier league quality

There is no relevant metric by which you can claim we are a big club. A club with history yes, but not a big club
