Budgies new home kit and the justification 14:50 - Jul 5 with 3144 viewsfootball

https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/160247-new-kit-incoming/page/3/#commen

Page 3 - they have explained.

"The yellow like a broads sunrise, burning wiht the passion of a City, casting shadow over rivals and showing our heroes the way"

"The collar rises like the Canary majestically soaring keeping watch over those below"

"These cuffs aren't just stitched - they're woven with the spirit of Carrow Road"

Did they pay for someone to come up with that tripe?

I like the campaign, tbh. The whole idea is that the 'marketing speak' is completely OTT and overblown, and is then replaced with 'it's yellow', 'it has a collar', 'the fabric is nice'.

It's entirely tongue-in-cheek.

The marketing guff that surrounds kit releases these days is utterly pointless.

Warra load of balls, but at least they’re able to joke about it:

I’ve just spent 5 minutes staring at the collar trying to spot the ‘majestically soaring Canaries’. It’s like one of those 1990s 3D pictures, but one that just won’t work. I need a lie down.

Oh, is that actually a deliberate part of the campaign. Wish I hadn’t bothered trying to spot those ‘majestically soaring Canaries’ now.

"canary majestically soaring"

Oh my word. Rarely have I heard such overblown guff.

Plus it's just wrong, canaries don't soar, I think they are getting mixed up with eagles, or even gulls. Either way, wrong club.

Canaries are most noted for dying.

Yes. It’s good. A classy mickey take on the overblown new kit release explosions.

We’ve done a similar thing with a lo-fi high school media project shot on an Iphone 6.

The yellow bit's alright, and the sponsor's logo (is it the guy from On The Buses?, is he a Norfolk lad, their version of Ed?) is elegant enough...

...but the bright, icky green and the daft collar and the razorwire motif (is that how they keep the OAPs penned into Carrot Road these days?) on collar and cuffs and that 'J' thing that looks like it's done by a five year old (seriously!) and that perennially awful badge...

...but the yellow's alright.

Christ, what a mess they are.

As someone who works in branding and has to deal with this sort of agency guff all the time, I quite like that they're taking the pi55 out of it.

The industry is such a circle-jerk of people trying to make their work seem more intelligent than it actually is

I thought canaries just wound up dead in a cage at the bottom of a coal mine.

The colours of their kit are truly vile. Always have been. I’m a little surprised they’ve not changed it to red or something. It’s not as if they’d lose any history by adopting a nice new colour.

Easy money though, innit?

"We need some marketing help. Can you come up with a spiel for this new shirt that doesn't say 'we picked this because it was one of the cheaper options in the catalogue, and thought it would sell well'? How about something like 'woven from the fabric of the city' or suchlike? We'll give you £50k."
