I don’t understand the need for people to put down something that others enjoy.
Genuine question, does this happen in other sports? Are male tennis fans like this, or male hockey fans?
It seems to be deep-rooted (whether intentional or not) in feeling that football is a male sport only, and gatekeeping it. It’s super sad - just let people enjoy what they enjoy. If you don’t - that’s cool. I don’t like rugby or cricket. I don’t jump on those threads. [Post edited 17 Jul 23:27]

Keepers have got really good at moving early but basically keeping a toe on the line. The Swedish keeper moved early but mostly along her line and when she did go slightly forward, she still had part of her foot on the line. | |

I don't see it happen in other sports, Tennis is a good example where there is probably a similar gap in quality between the men and women, but each are enjoyed independently. In cricket which I follow closely I would say there is even more of a gap in the levels, and again as far as I'm aware men are either supporting of the women's game, or take no interest, there isn't this need to compare it. I think most people would have been "laughing" at those penalties if it was a men's team too.
Some people seem to be overly sensitive when it comes to the women's football. They are allowed to be criticised.
Also, the comparing was probably not helped by a lot of people saying when the ladies won "we/they showed the men how its done". | | | |

I have nothing against women playing football (or any sport). I think the negativity from men towards women's football in particular is largely down to how forced it feels from the media. They put such a spin on it that the reality is somewhat disappointing. I get that they need to big up the game a bit to try and get people interested...but I think they go too far and it has a negative impact. Even when watching the games the commentary is massively hyped - and that's where some mocking comes in. |  | | |

1. It was absolutely frigging hilarious that shoot out.
Yep England men haven't done much better, but if you couldn't see how bad that shootout was well that is with you.
2. It was absolute dross.
Maybe football over 90mins and extra time making it 120 mins is too much for women.
They only play 3 sets in Tennis in majors. So maybe 35 minutes each half would help, a 70 minute game, with 10 mins for each half if extra time is needed.
Maybe that is worth considering to improve the women's game further.
3. Yes there are commentators asking for Female parity wages with men. I didn't make that up.
I really wish the England Woman's team all the best. Hope they bring the trophy home and show the men how it is done again.
I don't mind people having a pop at me, but if you can't post in jest on a football forum without upsetting some delicate flowers not sure what hope there is. |  |

When has anyone run as fast as they can before taking a penalty? The Swedish keeper seemed to stick her boot through it too and probably why the ball travelled so far. |
