According to the following :- https://t.co/wE9uVpdGyu

He was never coming here in a million years, we aim far too high. I make that Guiu, Ferguson, Hackney, Cajuste all on our ‘list’.

Aiming too high going for unreachable players whilst 2nd/3rd choices bet gobbled up elsewhere?

Any proof sitters?

No we need to stop buying these you g over priced players and do what Kieran said a couple of weeks ago look to the top European leagues for cheaper but better players.

We are in a tricky spot, we want players of prem quality/potential that what gets you automatically promoted and with a chance of surviving the prem.

Those deals are incredibly hard as the prem has money to burn and can offer far higher wages, hence we are left with the scraps which are normally dished out in august.

The other top championship players not quite prem good enough are also in demand from clubs like us or abroad, I don’t think there is many harder spots in football than our position.

We have done weel so far, and tying Dara down was huge, luckily 1 striker and 2 CMs is all we need for a very high quality championship squad.

The only Muff in Town.

Seemingly missed out on what I’d say were top targets that we probably chased for a while…

Guiu (Doesn’t want to come)
Agyemang (Gone to Derby)
Ruiz (Doesn’t want to come)
Ferguson (Gone to Roma)
Cajuste (Didn’t want to come?)

Meanwhile someone we were also believed to be interested in and probably down the list was Burger from Stoke. (Gone elsewhere)

Confident of signing him, but yet to make a bid.

So one very dubious example of a possible second target. No more second targets missed let alone third targets like you stated.

Not even convinced about the first targets you've listed, Agyemang for instance.

I was only insinuating anyway, hence the ‘?’ at the end.

It could well be a case of us chasing too targets for too long whilst others down the list move on.

I’m normally always very calm when it comes to transfers but was just expecting a bit more by this point really seeing as we were mathematically down by the end of April and Ashton said we were ‘well down the line’ on deals not long after.

Yes the window is still open for ages but would’ve been nice to get a big chunk of new lads in before the season started but anyway faith has to remain that we will get who and what we want eventually but there is evidence of panic buying previously under this regime.

Not talking masses amounts of players are we, desperately need another striker and CM at the minimum. Two big positions.

Isn’t it known these days clubs don’t bother with a bid unless they get a whiff that a player is interested?

Is why I was quite positive with the official approach news for Hackney last week tbh.

I wouldn't say we are "aiming too high", we're just in a strange market where we can probably only get these type of players if no premier league club is interested....!

None of us know what is going on in the background but I'm trusting we know what we are doing and I'll confirm that after the deadline.

I still think we have enough good players to win games we play before the transfer deadline window.

Seem to be a lot hawks after Hackney. (One for the speedway fans there).

Thing is, and I could be wrong here (and would happily be proved so), but I struggle to believe it when people say ‘we’re aiming so high and missing out on other targets’. I would simply be amazed if that’s how it works.

I imagine the club will have drawn up a list of say, 6 players, who all match and fit the criteria of the position required - in this case a centre mid - and either a) work on all those players at the same time and push the button on the whichever one they get the best value on, or b) work their way down the list with none of them being viewed as the ‘top’ tier signing.

As for Hackney, as as I mentioned in a thread earlier today, that whilst he may have interest from several teams in the PL and further afield… but until one of those make an acceptable offer to Boro or him, then we will be firmly in the mix, I.e, if we’re the only ones with an offer in to Boro (and no reason to doubt Phil and a couple of ITK accounts on X), and that’s his only offer on the table also (again we wouldn’t be making these offers if we haven’t had an indication he wasn’t willing to join), then we must believe we stand a good chance of signing him. And if we don’t, we simply move on to the next target.

Palace can be confident all they like, but until an offer goes in to Boro for him, it’s pretty irrelevant.

Is that a model? I’m not sure it is. Missing out on a target and getting them at a later date isn’t a target strategy it’s making the best out of an imperfect situation.

If anything it says we’re still not able to identify different prospects a year later so we carry on plugging away with the original target. Hence why I think the scouting issue is so rightly pointed out by McKenna.

As to an example of going back in for a player; Philogene is a recent example but what others are there? Too early in his case to say if it will be a success or not - fingers crossed…

Okay, maybe model was the wrong choice of word. It is a process we seem to follow though.

Philogene, Taylor, Hirst and Delap are all players we secured on our 2nd or 3rd attempt.

I'd imagine it is a case of him being told by his agent he is a B or C target for the likes of Palace/Everton and wanting to wait it out until he is sure they aren't going to work down their lists and come in for him. We on the other hand have him as an A+ target and are willing to risk waiting.

Pretty telling that it seems this £15m bid is just left on the table and hasn't been dismissed as out of hand by Boro as far as I am aware. Although they will be happy to wait a bit in hope of a bidding war.

Were a second class club so that's the market we're in were not competing with any premiership club and that includes the three that went up this season
