'Frightening list of transfer targets' 21:22 - Jul 22 with 4296 viewsFromReuserWithLove

Was expecting a different sort of frightening tbf. "haven't had a pre-season" looks like it may get trotted out again.

I'll continue to keep the faith, but I am a little worried about the start of the season. We've been given a horrible start, and without a little bit of midfield backup it wouldn't be great if we dropped some ground at first.

I don't mind having that start whilst we continue to put the side together.

Imo. It's better to get those bigger games out the way and maybe not get 3 points than playing smaller sides and not getting 3 points.

When we got promoted from both leagues If I remember rightly our actual results against top 6 sides weren't great but we managed to do well against the rest.

Maybe that's why there's little panic. Leagues not lost in August

Completely disagree, we need a strong start after a really poor season last year. If we want to go up we need to beat the other favourites more often than not, we will need 90+ points to go up automatically for sure and there’s not much margin for error.

I could produce a frightening list of targets.

I’d prefer a realistic list.

Did you see the teams we put out in the recent friendlies. More than enough in there for the championship. Our defence has been improved and we have brought in an upgrade or Morsy in midfield. We are weaker at right back but we may go to a back three as demonstrated on Saturday.

His going to be some player if better than Morsy for me the verdict is out.
I'm concerned as winning breeds winning and losing breeds losing and we have been crap since January.

We got that last time without beating those. That was my point

Obviously we'd prefer a good start. Everyone would

But I'm not seeing august as the needs must when it comes to having our squad ready

Have to admit that after being fairly blasé about the relative lack of transfers in I’m beginning to wonder a bit.

I know the transfer window runs until September but can’t think the Club would want to be only just over two weeks out from the start of the season with significant strengthening of the squad still needed. Hopefully we get some business done this week.

Bit early to be stressing. We’ve still got a massive chunk of the window left. Just because we haven’t signed five players by mid-July doesn’t mean we’re not doing anything behind the scenes. I give you Kipré and Matusiwa.

Most of the bigger moves, especially from Premier League squads, tend to happen later on once they’ve sorted their own business. That’s where we are fishing now.

Not having a full pre-season isn’t ideal, but we’ve kept the core of a very good squad and added smartly so far. Couple more quality additions and we’ll be in a strong spot.

Ashton and McKenna haven’t steered us wrong yet and have delivered the vast majority of the time. Still plenty of time to get what we need. The squad we have now is still more than capable of competing with the best in the league. Most of the teams in the championship would bite your hand off to have what we have available.

Bang on. We’ve also looked devoid of ideas and any real fight since January.

Think some do overplay morsys talents.

He's been solid. But he was a championship level when he came to us and last season showed he wasn't prem level ( not a slight, just that's not his level)

Our new cm appears to be of a higher standard which we will look forward to seeing.

Not great to be honest. In such a strong financial position in this league as well. Time left though but I was hoping for a couple of 8 figure deals in the door by now. I assume we have missed on a couple.

We can't afford a terrible start.

Not stressing, merely an observation that the window isn't going to plan considering the talk of having a head start and wanting to get deals done early. We're clearly a bit unrealistic in terms of targets as this isn't the first window this has happened. Ashton got a bit tetchy when pressed on it last time.

I will admit to being disappointed by our struggles in the market thus far. I really thought attentions would have turned to the Championship list a good while before the end of the season (expect they did), that we'd have further refined the balance between optimistic and realistic (feeling less likely now lol), and that at least a few of our targets would be chomping at the bit to join us (snap).

We began the summer as favourites to win this league after all. The strength in depth in some areas is frightening for the right reasons. Was it naive to believe a couple of very good midfielders, a very good striker, would see the opportunity to complete our jigsaw and jump at it? Anybody joining now will instead have missed valuable pre-season Kieran time. Before too long, they'll have missed the opportunity to impact the start of our season.

I don't suggest the summer's been lost already, that would be silly, but is the desperation klaxon inching closer to Ashton's fingertips? It's a shame Michelle Agyemang wasn't born Michael Agyemang.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Invest NOW in shares in firms making incontinence products, because the amount of wet beds and soiled nappies this summer is already HUGE.

If we are going to need 95 plus points to go up automatically August is fundamental.

As it stands I think we are way off that level. Not that 2 really good midfielders coming in wouldn’t help with though. That initial lack of cohesion could really cost us but it is what it is.

Whilst the activity may have been slower than previous transfer windows, people have to remember that we did a lot of purchasing last couple of windows. Sure we need some more players but its not as doom and gloomy as some make out. I'd rather wait and get the right people in than rush and end up with the wrong players.

The squad we already have should be good enough to push for a top 6 finish as a minimum. A couple of additional players, and weare golden.

I tend to agree. Last season we lost a lot of games, losing is a habit, just like winning. If I was Birmingham, I’d be going for the jugular against us from the first whistle. Get us on the back foot early to sow those seeds of doubt. We need a decent start just to restore some confidence and restore some belief.

I'm not sure about this.

Winning and losing has a lot more to do with the opposition than being a habit. You can win every match in the Champ and still lose to a weaker PL team easily.

Look at what Town did to Coventry last year with a weakened team.

Also seen someone like Plymouth who got promoted ahead of us with more momentum and couldn't repeat it against better opposition.

Obviously winning games and having confidence doesn't hurt at all but just not sure about the "habit" narrative.

Yeah, but people love a new signing don't they?

If we all just forget the fact that we effectively bought all our players for this season this time last year, by getting in top Championship players, (Szmods, Clarke, O'Shea, Greaves, Palmer, Philogene), then the fact we haven't really being active this window = about to get tonked by Brum.
