Two quality midfielders and a striker required at least, no firm links to anyone apart from a 40yr old. I'm sure we will get a couple of loans from the Prem but is that enough?

Given the club were saying they were in negotiations as soon as we knew we were relegated last season, which they were implying gave us a head start in recruitment, it is surprising that there haven’t been more incomings.

Which makes me think perhaps in a naive manner that we ve got agreements in place but won’t see movement until the selling / parent club allows the player to leave which could depend on a number of things

Like I said maybe I’m naive to it all but thats all I can put it down to at this present time …..either that or we’ve been spun a web of lies from the club with that line

We cant afford to start slow.

Need a couple of quality additions in before the squad go to France for the game vs Auxerre give Mckenna a week at least to work with them. We cannot have Taylor or Humphreys starting at Brum.

Yeah, not surprising that the sort of deals we want to do mean we might have to hang on a bit more than everyone would ideally want, but if someone had told McKenna that he'd be going into the first game of the season with his midfield options being Jack Taylor, Cameron Humphreys and one new signing, he'd assume he's in a nightmare and would want being shaken out of it.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I think we'll have plenty of irons in fires and be in talks with a lot of clubs / players representatives. Whether we have hard and fast agreements probably not, but we'll have a list where we know we could strike if we want to.

Part of me wonders if the delay in announcing the seemingly inevitable Morsy deal is because we want a higher confidence level on another midfield addition coming in shortly after.

I would like to think that is the case. I wouldn't be letting him go anywhere until we have someone else signed on the dotted line here.

Not concerned about the striker as I suspect we will get a PL player, either on loan or to buy, at the back end of the window when those clubs have settled on their squads. MF needs at least one more before the season starts.

Will be hard to sell a PL player he's likely to be the 2nd striker behind Hirst unless he's a class player.

In a word, yes, but I am as much concerned about losing Morsy as I am about the time it is taking to bring people in.

We have targeted Ruiz, and although this looks unlikely now it is slightly concerning that we could have a new midfield base consisting of two players that have never played in this country before, never mind the Championship.

At this point I would be looking to get in a Travis ( or similar ) just to give us some Championship know-how in that area of the pitch while the others bed in.

Morsy will be a massive loss to the team, could be the difference at the end of the season.

Why can't we have Taylor or Humphreys starting the season? Genuine question. It's not like they are pub players and they'll be in a team that contains ten other players who are top end Championship players. Both are more than capable of contributing as squad players here.

The other thing worth noting is we're not unique in our situation, and all it really comes down to is our squad relative to those we're competing against.

I think we'll do something at right back which would see Clarke go out, but that's not a priority. 2 central midfielders and 2 forward players is probably what we'll want by deadline day. 1 of each is the more immediate need IMO. That would give Hirst a partner to yin yang with which to me feels crucial given the physical output in that role. I don't think we'll want to look to Al-Hamadi from the bench.

It would also mean Matusiwa, new CM & Taylor fight it out for those 2 starting roles, with the other off the bench. Humphreys backing up until we have the 2nd in at which point he goes out on loan.

Its not unthinkable we get those 2 in before Brum.

It’s too early to judge this transfer window one way or the other yet. Having said that I’d be increasingly concerned if we start the season without any more significant signings. Yes, the transfer window goes on until September but it becomes a sellers market and panic buys become more likely!

By this stage last season, Burnley had signed 9 players, with a further 6 arriving before the window closed. Outgoings, they had only lost three players by this point, but a further 11 left after the season had started!

What will be, will be.

We may well see this happen if business isn't done soon enough.

But on the original question, I'm in the relaxed club too.

McKenna and Ashton have got this, no worries at all.

Perhaps the delay in signing new players is because we haven't been able to move on some others in order to make room for them in the 25 man squad.

It would make more sense for sure.

Where I think we will benefit this season (where we haven't before) is that I imagine we would be the top pick of a lot of our 'B' targets. So, if we miss out on 'A' targets late on we should be able to quickly pivot and beat other clubs to deals there.

Not concerned but a little surprised and a tad disappointed. But it is what it is and I'm sure those responsible for transfer business and busy doing all they can to get in the players they think are the right ones. They haven;t done too badly over the last 3 years so I'm happy to trust them at the moment.

That said, I thought that early relegation and talk of a list of players (was it Joe that mentioned this?), and a very attractive proposition for players, that we'd be pole position to get a few more over the line than we have. Maybe I'm being unrealistic though?

The trouble with football is you're dealing with so many variables.

All well and good looking at your scouting report and data screens and drawing up a list of players, but then.

* will the club accept a bid?
* is the player willing to come?
* is the agent easy to deal with?

Get those few bits out of the way and then you have.
* multiple clubs looking at the same player
* bidding wars on the transfer fee
* get over that hurdle, you've then got to persuade the player to come.
* pass a medical

The player has a lot of work to do themselves, weighing up options, possible speaking to mangers, researching where they'd be living.

It's not a 5 min job UNLESS you're throwing £80m about and £300k a week in wages...the choices become quite easy then lol!
