I find it very weird that his wife has announced on social media he is leaving, but, nothing from the club still?

He's seemed to get a new contract every summer. Captain or otherwise he hasn't half seemed to call the shots, getting new terms when he's asked and now giving up his contractual commitment for zilch because we wouldn't offer him a longer deal. We could've told him to suck it up and see out his contract, as you say I can't see there's much for him to be too peeved about.

I'd imagine the sort of personality that has seen him be such a good leader here and driving force is what has allowed him to push for those, and is now why he is leaving - guess not a stretch to say he wouldn't be the best influence around the place if a bit part player.

He's being allowed to leave for free and as you say can't see what there is to be peeved about; but he's got all these social media posts from his wife [and anyone with any dealings with media team at ITFC will tell you that they want to control the ins and outs of every part of it] and he's training in full public view at Woodbridge Town with a cameraman, videographer etc for more social media content

It feels like he is sticking two fingers up at someone at ITFC by effectively going rogue - it's not a normal exit for a player who has been so important and would still be in the Starting XI if the season kicked off tonight

Not sure he can really have his nose put out too much over that. As others have mentioned, he's had new deals on improved terms here a couple of times and we've given him the best years of his career. But he turns 34 soon and we want to be back in the top flight next season, realistically he's not going to be the man to lead us in the Prem if we do make it back up and he must see that. The club is doing right by him letting him leave for nothing to pursue a life changing deal elsewhere. If his toys are out of the pram then we're best off moving on from him.

I'm a massive fan of his and wouldn't offer him a new deal, the club are doing the right thing, but it seems to have put his nose out of joint

Real shame, and doesn't reflect brilliantly on him in my opinion.

But this is presumably just his personality type, that drive is what doesn't allow him to be second best here and be content with it

Maybe, although you want your captain to be able to put the club first at times rather than their own interests, or at least to be able to take a bit of perspective on why the club's interests don't align with their own. Sticking two fingers up at a club that's given you a lot isn't a good look.

Matt Holland didn't sign for Villa when we were going into admin for £4.5m because his contract length was going to be shorter and we ended up selling him for £800k

Captain or not, players do what they think is right by them - just a bit unbecoming at the moment

I would have to agree. By all means try and prove the club wrong during your time in Kuwait, but don't bite the hand that's made him a Premier League footballer for the first time in his journeyman-esque career.

There's a small part of me that wonders whether there's a little more to it.

I found it interesting that the original EADT article made reference to Morsy being a devout Muslim and being rather outspoken regarding the rights of Palestinians.

Maybe a tiny strand to it, but could it be that the club isn't standing in his way as (as has been seen elsewhere in football) they're not 100% comfortable with his views.

I was reading this morning that even the likes of St Pauli aren't above this sort of thing, with Jackson Irvine's position at the club now being called into question after having worn an FC Palestina shirt.

I would imagine international transfers / work visas may take more time across certain regions - and having run teams across Middle East (inc Kuwait), it *can* be a little more challenging.

Not to mention his current contract may have some terms and conditions on early termination that need to be ironed out as well, plus sorting out his and his family's life.

Patience is a virtue.

There's no way the club will be happy about how this is being handled, and will have tried to put a stop to it.

That it's carrying on as it is probably gives an indication that SM is unhappy with how he is being treated

Nonsense.

Matt Holland didnt make a public show of it though.

I dont think anyone begrudges Morsy choosing the right financial option.

I think it shows every single player is out for himself. We’ve waived a fee for him to make this transfer easier apparently, you’d think he’d tell his wife not to post anything till it’s all sorted.

It does feel a bit like that to me, I mean for the cost of replacement for him surely we could have kept him and given him that 2 yer contract if so. He would be quality back up still at a minimum
