Ao Tanaka, Leeds dont think good enough for premier league 10:02 - Jul 28 with 3193 viewsGrief

No idea if anything in this but i was told we are close to agreeing something

He was quality in championship last year, could be fantastic for us this season.

A quick google suggests he's rated very highly and if he left it would be for a more established Prem club...

Truly impaired.

Think he was their Player of the Year.

Seems very unlikely

Tanaka, Hackney and Matusiwa. Stop it.

Surely not?

No chance sadly, we missed a huge trick when he was here for the pre season game, clearly stood out and a snip at 2m

The only Muff in Town.

I'd be surprised if we didn't take a look at him this time last summer tbh. He was quality for Fortuna in their friendly against us, best player on the pitch IMO. 5 weeks later he's signing for Leeds for peanuts and the rest is history as they say.

They have just signed Anton Stach for £17m and Sean Longstaff for £12m though.

Yes and the best player on the grass by a country mile,
Week later Leeds signed him for next to nothing,

Not saying I'd be surprised if we wanted him, just surprised if we didn't take a look last summer since central midfield was always a target area and he rocked up at PR looking like he had a lot about him, was heading into the last year of his contract and available for peanuts.

Sorry, I thought you said you'd be surprised if Leeds didn't take a look at him this pre-season! I'll go get some glasses!

I said this a few weeks back about him

He stood out like a sore thumb in that friendly that day

I don't know a huge amount about Tanaka, other than that he impressed at Leeds last season, but he looks like he weighs about 10 stone and we all know how much we struggled with the physicality of the Premier league last season.

Maybe that is Leeds' concern too?

They've also just made a bid for Franck Kessie... interesting.

Looking at him, you do wonder if Tanaka does have the physicality to run a PL midfield - knowing what we know from last season.

Potentially feels like a good option for a loan signing. Leeds might want to hold onto him if they get relegated, and we might not want to keep him if we get promoted, so could work out all round?

Looks like Leeds fans are questioning the same thing. Perhaps why we didn’t go for him last summer.

If that’s the case I’d be surprised if we went for him this time around.

But if he's only £7m-£8m, would it be worth it to effectively have an untouchable central midfield for this season?

Also worth noting he's another CAA Base player...

Leeds fans adore him.

Even if he's been told he's not going to be a regular starter, i still think he'd rather stick around to see if he can clock up 10-15 appearances at that level.

Not completely out of the question, but highly unlikely.

As others have said, I’m sure we’d be interested but can’t see why Leeds would allow him to leave. The only possibility I could see is if they don’t think he’s got the physicality for the prem then they might consider a loan to us with an expensive option at the end of the season based on them staying up. If they’ve got any sense they’ll be very aware that they might go down this season and need him again next season

Hadn’t noticed the agent to be fair.

You could well be right regarding the fee & impact.

We shoudl have used our Fortuna links and got him before he signed for Leeds. Watching him on the trip there and when he played at ours, he's class
