On the world stage, yes. He has become a clear leader of Europe along with Macron, Merz and Tusk. He is the bridge between the US and the EU. Starmer and Macron handle Trump with relative ease. The whole thing is an act to try and get what is needed from him.
Domestically, not so much. There's still plenty of time but he really needs to step up on national issues. |  |

That is quite hard to answer without referencing the state the last few governments have left the country in, as their record has had a dramatic negative effect on the country, right down to Hunt salting the earth in his last budget with massively unaffordable tax cuts.
Starmer isn’t what I think we need; I would have hoped for a more progressive and optimistic kind of politics. Their politics seems rather spiteful, narrow-minded and in the interests of corporate interest rather than people. Their ideology doesn’t resonate with me and their communication is poor to say the least.
On the plus side, he’s a strong head of his party, but that’s a double edge sword - ask any Labour Party members on the left about that. He’s also an adult in the room, and as J2 points out that has improved the UK’s standing internationally, yet he could go further there too.
I’m not too fusssed about what he does with his hands though. | |

The fact that Trump threatens "Tariffs Tariffs Tariffs" and that Brexit broke our relationships in Europe coupled with the situations in Gaza and Ukraine I am not sure what he is expected to do.
International relationships are fundamental to trade.
