Slow Transfer Window 13:41 - Jul 31 with 1429 views | IP1Blue | Before Hackney comes in (fingers crossed) we would have only made 3 signings with a week to go until start of the season. Both McKenna and Ashton said that the benefit of a knowing our relegation relatively early that we could move onto targets quicker as we knew where would be. This can’t be ideal for either of them. Still potentially 2 centre midfielders short (maybe 1, depending on humphries) and 2 strikers short, you could argue though I do think Szmodics can play that role in the championship which is being forgotten about and act as the 3rd striker. If broadhead and Hutchinson go, you’d expect probably one more in that department to replace them. I’m guessing we’re waiting on prem clubs to return from there tours and look at a few loans but think we’re a bit short going into Birmingham and Southampton (with our current squad in areas, NOT are starting 11) [Post edited 31 Jul 14:00]

Slow Transfer Window on 13:48 - Jul 31 with 1294 views | DarkBrandon | There's some truth in your analysis, but I don't think we need to have the squad 100% ready until the transfer window closes. If we somehow get Hackney across the line our first eleven looks really strong, and the bench nearly there. Some support for Hirst is clearly required, and ideally another one or two in the middle (depending on how KM sees Taylor and Hump) but I don't think these need to be done imminently. HH on the other hand would improve us instantly. [Post edited 31 Jul 13:49]

I wish lol! Think we’ll keep Hutchinson, hope he plays well and maybe scores 3/4 in first few games and then get a desperate bid from a prem team is my guess and delay it as much as possible to get as good as deal as possible.
Slow Transfer Window on 13:50 - Jul 31 with 1248 views | RIPbobby | I get the feeling that we have 2 Chelsea kids coming our way towards the end of the window.
Slow Transfer Window on 13:54 - Jul 31 with 1161 views | Herbivore | Three signings? Hackney, Matusiwa, Kipre, Young, Button - that's five signings. Happy to discount Button as he's more on the coaching side I imagine, but that's still four signings. Think we'll probably see one more CM and a striker, possibly two if we want to offload Al Hamadi, and that will be that. More than half our business done before August isn't bad going.

Hopefully do a repeat on Hutchinson! My only worry about Hutchinson leaving is that having him and burns in the championship was perfect because they’re polar opposites wingers so if it wasn’t working you could sub one for the other and usually get an impact. With burns and ogbene, they’re very similar so not sure you’d get that affect and also Clarke/philogene have both tried it but it’s clear there best positions are on the left. Think we would need to replace that so we have at least a different option on the right.

Tbf I forgot about button! I meant 3 before Hackney and accidentally put after but with button included, it’s 4 before Hackney, my mistake!
Slow Transfer Window on 13:58 - Jul 31 with 1099 views | _clive_baker_ | I'd make it 4 - Young, Kipre, Matusiwa, Hackney. I'll exclude Button, but technically 5. Ashton also said its a summer of evolution not revolution, and that keeping hold of what we've got is as much a win as adding new. We've done that in McKenna and O'Shea, Davis hopefully stays as well as he's a massive component in our side who sometimes gets overlooked. We look likely to keep hold of Hirst, Philogene, Clarke, Greaves, Szmodics who no doubt are all players we could've looked to move on if we wanted to. 7 players there who are going to have a massive contribution this season, potentially 8 if Hutchinson stays. Aside from Delap we've (so far) kept hold of most of our 'big tickets'. Tuanzebe is a blow, and some would argue Morsy is as well although I'm less sure of that personally and thought CM has needed surgery for a while. Rather than looking at transfers in absolute numbers which is a bit arbitrary, looking at our squad we're well stocked in goal, have 2 for each position across the back line, and vast options in the final 3rd. I'd agree post Hackney (hopefully) we would still be 1 x CM short and lack depth at #9. So probably 3 in, 6 or 7 out including players like Slicker & Baggott. Its not a bad place to be by any stretch with a month of the window remaining, especially as the better PL loan deals generally aren't done until later in the window when squads get more finalised. Think we are in a decent place tbh, if we land Hackney and a striker, with a loan CM possibly we are sorted. Imagine things will be mostly sorted by season start.

Slow Transfer Window on 14:19 - Jul 31 with 833 views | vilanovablue | To be fair if Hackney gets over the line I think the window will have been going excellently. I know we need a striker and I'm sure that we are working on stuff in the background. I mean nobody would have suggested we were in with a chance of landing Hackney.

You could argue its probably only 1 #9 from a starting XI and bench perspective short if we land Hackney. Palmer Young O'Shea Greaves Davis Matusiwa Hackney Hutchinson Szmodics Philogene Hirst Walton, Johnson, Kipre, Taylor, Chaplin, J. Clarke, Ogbene, #9, Humphreys. Something like the above. I'm sure Woolfy & Townsend might have something to say about it. Then look to strengthen in CM with a further addition before the end of the window, and an additional #9 that allows Ali to move on. H. Clarke, Muric, Baggott, AAH, Broadhead, Slicker moving on in some capacity.

Made tougher by the fact we are shopping in a lower PL team 'shop window', rather than our traditional average Championship player window. We're going to have to sell the project really well or overpay on wages/fee (or both) to land some of these players. With the window open for another 4 and a bit weeks, we are going to surely utilise the loan window too and get a few 'ringers' in, like we did when Omari joined us. We've got the funds, we should absolutely use all the cheat codes we can.

I wouldn’t say it’s overly negative but with Birmingham and Southampton being our direct rivals, we’d want to approach them games as ready as possible and not drop points early in I’d argue we will need a RW if Hutchinson goes as burns will be out until October at the earliest by the sounds of it
Slow Transfer Window on 14:34 - Jul 31 with 693 views | JammyDodgerrr | After Hackney we will only really be missing another ST, and there's basically zero of getting a good striker done before the last bit of the window. I think we're setting ourselves up well.

Saints and Brum won't have completed all of their business by then though, and may well be dealing with greater changes to their starting XI than us.

We also might need to be creative with the contracts like Delap to attract the top end players. Top players don't want to get stuck in the Champ on long contracts. I know someone on here said we got 'burned' by Delap - (I don't agree, we got him rather than Soton and still made a profit) but I won't be surprised if we have some kind of clause allowing him to leave for not much more than we pay if we don't get promoted.

I'd say a striker and at least one future CM. We'll probably need to replace Woolfenden if he goes too, and Baggott really needs game time, rather than staying as fourth choice CB.

Even if we hadn't bought a single player, and we've bought in five, our squad was still strong for this level. I don't mind waiting to the end of the window to get the right players in. There seems to be a strange obsession with having all the players we might sign in place for the Birmingham game because Birmingham are good. That's not how it works. Or shouldn't be.
