Birmingham now want to buy Akpom outright on 22:39 - Aug 4 with 2999 views | BlacknGoldnBlue | Latest from Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth and Anthony Joseph: Ipswich Town remain confident of signing Ajax striker Chuba Akpom but Birmingham City haven’t given up hope yet. Sky Sports News understands Birmingham are now in talks with Ajax over a permanent deal for the 29-year-old. Birmingham are yet to make an official bid but talks are ongoing. Akpom has been undergoing a medical with Ipswich Town tonight ahead of a season-long loan move, with a £7m obligation to buy if the club are promoted. Akpom was due to sign for Birmingham yesterday, but has been the subject of a number of hijack attempts with Ipswich still favourites to secure his signature

Just got to hope Ajax give him the option of loan or permanent as it’s clear they want a fee for him and I don’t think we’ll offer a permanent deal but maybe Akpom can push it through if he wants us over Birmingham.

All bordering on madness.
Birmingham now want to buy Akpom outright on 22:47 - Aug 4 with 2605 views | football | He's down for a medical so personally has chosen Ipswich over Brum. Ajax were happy with a loan with purchase
Birmingham now want to buy Akpom outright on 22:48 - Aug 4 with 2518 views | burnbudgiesburn | Maybe Birmingham were annoyed by our gazumping and now just trying to force us to buy him outright if we want him. If Akpom has made his choice between us, then we are in control unless we are unwilling to pay upfront.

You’d hope so. Since signing Kipre and Asor, every transfer target has seemed such a saga! Cajuste was, Hackney was (not convinced that’s done yet though), Ivan azor seems a bit of one and now this!

Birmingham now want to buy Akpom outright on 22:57 - Aug 4 with 2147 views | pointofblue | Logically, why would Akpom want to join either of us permanently at this stage? Surely it makes more sense to go on loan and have some flexibility next year should either us or Birmingham (whoever he joins) not go up? Rather than being 31 and possibly stuck at a Championship club calling the shots? The big question is whether Ajax go back on the agreement with us. [Post edited 4 Aug 23:09]

Nothing would surprise me in this window. I suppose that's what happens when you're after players that will appeal to clubs on or above your level. Not gonna lie, I'll be glad when the window is over. It's been exhausting and I'm not even involved.

In all honesty, if Akpon decides to go to Brum it doesn't bother me. In my opinion he's not a game changer, just a capable body through the door. Happy if he joins but not concerned if he doesn't.

reading a report Ajax let him choose which club to join and he obviously turned Brum down, hence cancelling his medical. I think it will be fine - he seems to want to join us. Brum just not happy they have lost out. Like you, I also don't think the Hackney is done and dusted. Brum aren't going to be promotion material this season - we are more likely contenders imho
Birmingham now want to buy Akpom outright on 23:10 - Aug 4 with 1695 views | CityBlue | The key difference in a permanent deal is that the player has to agree personal terms. He has already shown his desire to come here when he chose us over Brum when two loan deals were in the table. Not sure he would want to go there now or feel comfortable about it either having turned them down once.

Birmingham now want to buy Akpom outright on 23:22 - Aug 4 with 1441 views | Smoresy | Would like to think this is in the player's court now. He's allegedly on €5m p/y and Ajax don't see value or affordability in that, hence wanting him off the books last winter and this summer. To sanction his move and medical here only to renege on that, well Akpom could theoretically refuse Brum's permanent offer and then Ajax would face carrying heavy wages which they clearly don't want to lift. He must be high enough on our list that we felt compelled to act today, and I see why personally given his serious credentials in this division. We've rightly been swooning over a new midfielder this pre-season who was plying his trade at a much lesser French club than the one Akpom was playing for in May.

Cajuste is almost done. Akpom is done. Not sure how it can go wrong from here when he’s agreed terms, so have us and Ajax and the medical was fine. Brum coming in late again does zero unless they offer tens of millions in advance. And even then would Ajax AND akpom both go against their word? I doubt they very much. It’s done. He will be announced tomorrow

Hope Akpom doesn't score against us on Friday, and good luck to Cajuste, it was fun while it lasted.

You realise Phil has verified said source on here don’t you? And that I’ve given Phil stories before he’s then put up and turned out to be true? I can probably find you a post from him confirming as such if you give me a few minutes The last few page of this thread ought to do it. These Hamer rumours by The_Romford_Blue 12 Aug 2024 23:08Got the wrong Sheffield United player.
No idea if we will get him but the word I’m getting is that we actually want their centre back - Anel Ahmedhodžić.
Absolutely no idea if we have bid or anything (doesn’t sound like we have) but just that the interest is him rather than Hamer. [Post edited 5 Aug 0:00]

You’ve got a strong track record of being right. For the sake of Phil’s servers let’s hope you’re right again.

I hope you're right but even if the other parties would now prefer a permanent deal I would say we can easily match those terms. Although we may prefer a loan deal, I doubt it's a deal breaker.

It might be, 7M is nothing if you go up but noticeable dent into a second season parachute payment, also would be curious what he wants on wages. We need the bodies, overall I am fairly lukewarm warm on this one to be honest but I’d be happy to get him in the squad for decent depth and experience at the moment. Obviously had a great season a few years ago for Boro. I’d still want a like for like Hirst replacement though as well, I’m hoping the Azon deal happens as well to try and develop him.
