Doubt it will happen now.... on 17:52 - Aug 5 by Ryorry
Time for KM to use his power then! (assuming he really wants CA).
...really.
How much do we want him?
I've always thought it was really just as a replacement for Broadhead, so if we've let him go (which appears to be the case) and we don't get Chubs then it's a proper cock-up!
If we did want him then just pay up, hopefully I'm wrong but I can't see it.

Feck me.
This is really making me yearn for the days of finding out signings via teletext.
It’s all very tiresome. The transfer window needs to be condensed into one single day. Then all the c**t agents and other vermin in suits can have 24 hours to feel important. And then fk off.

All this must be massively unsettling for the player himself, esp with start of the season only 3 days away.
Hope that his current club a*rsing around like this, seemingly not caring too much about how he feels, makes him all the more likely to reject staying with them.

It's so true. If the NFL can do it, why couldn't the Prem/EFL?
A weekend window would be the stuff of dreams for Sky.
As for this deal, it stinks. Wagner and Brady clearly don't like being told no. But why the hell proceed with a permanent bid if Akpom has chosen us over their circus?

works both ways though, we don't have to honour anything with wrexham unless a contract exists

The NFL trade window runs until about the 8th game week. Free agency starts with a flurry but still runs for months.

i doubt they even want him now, but it delays our plans, so it works out well for them!

....the player may now think "I'd rather go to the club that is gonna commit to a proper contract and have that faith in me" rather than the club that's only offering me a loan deal.
He may well be peed off with Ajax, but Birmingham are potentially making him feel better about himself.
Who knows though.
Definitely not me!

....Ashton's ego will prevent him from going back in with a permanent deal.
He'll do the old "take it or leave it" routine.
And they'll leave it.
Thing is, if they leave it, they could end up stuck paying Akpom. A player who not only wants to leave, but who was told he could leave, agreed a deal to let him leave and has done nearly every formality before having the rug pulled out from under him. If he's stuck there, they are paying a lot of money for a rightly unhappy player.
If the loan to us falls through, he'd not go to Birmingham unless they match or exceed his current wage. Why would he take the paycut? Additionally a loan with an obligation to buy if promoted means not only does he get his full wage this year, but he only gets a permanent move if the club get promoted. No chance of being stuck on a multi year deal in the Championship by going all-in on the wrong horse.

a "proper contract" is apparentky 100k a week at ajax, can't see us or even brum matching that!

....on his way to Birmingham when we stepped in, it was widely reported.
So he was obviously happy to go there until we got involved.
Effectively he's just back to that position but potentially with a longer contract on the table.
Hopefully Birmingham will use the rhythm method and we'll be OK.

Said on another thread though, surely it'd be better for him to keep his options open & flexible - a season with us in the shop window for Prem sides if we don't go up, or a potential permanent deal with us if we do (as Kiev says above).

Is it always a positive to have a longer contract? At the moment he's contracted till June 2028 and possibly on a lucrative contract. Sure he might get an extra year or 2 on his contract, but I doubt he'll take a pay cut.
Similarly if he signs on a 5 year deal at Birmingham (or Us) but doesn't get them promoted, he could end up stuck. Loan gives him a chance to stay on his high wage and only permanently move to a guaranteed Premier League team.

....there was a link on the Birmingham forum showing him as being on E26K a week.
His wages only went up when they thought he was coming to us.
£100k a week is made up nonsense.
maybe true, maybe not.
either way it substantially changes the worth of the deal to itfc, paying the full amout of his wage over the length of his contract, versus one year of reduced wages
not surprising that we wouldn't be able to pay it!

Totally the opposite for me. Have you seen the video of his highlights? Really exciting player - pacy, twinkletoes tricks, built like a tank & uses his strength to out-muscle defenders, versatile in his positions up front.
A kind of hybrid of Delap & Hutch! I think he could make a huge difference for us.
I agree with you Ryorry.
I'm sensing people are more excited for a Spaniard named Ivan, who did quite well in Spain's 2nd tier, just outside the top 20 leagues in the world, but since then hasn't been awarded a single second on the pitch by lesser-spotted Serie A side Como.
Chuba conversely has been playing regularly for prestigious clubs, ever since he won the EFL award for Championship Player of the Season in 22/23! How many of those do we have kicking the ball around presently? None! And the chap's still in his prime years.
I will be sad if this doesn't go through.

If Birmingham hadn’t made the bid to purchase then the player would have already signed for Town and been available to play against Birmingham on Friday.
The chances are we either match the Birmingham offer or sit back and wait a couple of days. If the player wants to be here it will happen.
Not costing Birmingham anything to attempt to stop him being available for us Friday,
