Cajuste/ Akpom pre-season .... 11:18 - Aug 6 with 2087 viewsBellevue_Blue

Am I right in thinking neither has played any part in pre-season for their clubs?

Napoli only started pre-season friendlies last weekend, and Cajuste didn't play. I'm sure he was involved in pre-season training sessions.

No idea about Akpom. Likely the same for training.

This is the thing about wanting players in before the season starts. Yes the windiw goes on a few more weeks, but players coming in after the start of the season are invariably a month ( or more) behind the rest of the group, and clubs like to hit the ground running. Some of our rivals have had their new players in a few weeks niw, and we're still faffing about trying to target and speak to players, it seems.

Whilst true Arnie, dont forget that a large majority of our lineup on friday and games after will be full of players that have trained, played etc alot together already, intigrating players weekly there after isn't such an issue. There are some clubs that have signed 6/7 players, who you'd imagine are new starters.. that's where you need them in early

a niche perspective

Get em signed and shirted up first for the cameras.

Cajuste still has to pass a medical as long as he's still interested.

Can't see them involved... unless from the bench.

Think we still need another CM as well as a striker. CM more important than a striker.

Happily take a draw and a good performance.

Which signings from our rivals would you want here over the players we've signed or are close to signing?

In an ideal world I agree but of the players who have been with our rivals for a couple of weeks, who would you prefer over these signings despite them arriving late?

‘Faffing about’..

Genuine question, would you rather we signed average Championship players in June who have no realistic chance of stepping up if we’re promoted, or sign top Championship / lower prem standard players but we have to wait until August?

Of course in an ideal world we’d have had all our signings confirmed by 1st July but players that will improve our squad take time to sort. I’m yet to see a confirmed Championship signing so far that would get into our 11.

Whilst true, we have a good squad in situ already, one that we can put out on Friday that has been part of pre-season, and Cajuste isn't coming in particularly blind to how we play / what we expect. He's even familiar with some of the additions.

If we put out an 11 from the first half of the last 2 pre-season friendlies, we shouldn't need to view that as being a poor team. Plus we have quality on the bench. Yes, we will benefit from a couple of additions, but we're not in poor shape for the August fixtures.

All a bit of 'glass half full vs glass half empty' imo.

One of our finest! But he takes it well when given.

Thing is everybody knows it's better to get them in for full pre-season. Its has been presented so many times the reasons why it doesn't happen for the top targets (i.e. Prem quality/potential Prem quality) so yes it's bed wetting and adds no value.

The alternative is we get lesser players in for wholemof pre-season. That would be easy. There would be a lot more bed wetting then!

We have a very strong squad who have completed pre-season. It's a 46 game season. The late arrivals can be bedded on. For example we have an ideal game to get minutes in leg in the cup midweek. Rotation would happen for this anyway.

We are looking to sign players for the next 3/4 years or even longer. That means getting the right players who can step with us next year should we fulfil our aim of promotion. I don't get this obsession that many seem to have with signing players quickly and at the very least ready for the Birmingham game. We will sign players after Friday who will shine long after that game has passed and I don't think anyone will be slating them because they weren't playing at St. Andrews

Neither will play any more than 15 minutes on Friday night; Matusiwa & Taylor will start in the middle, while the front 4 is still well enough covered, even with injuries & likely sales, by Ogbene/Johnson, Chaplin/Szmodics, Clarke/Szmodics & Hirst, with Al Hamadi.
It would be nice to see both coming on though, and Ivan Azon!

I wonder if we'll announce both as late as possible to hinder Brum's preparation.

If they don't know our squad, makes it slightly harder to prepare accordingly.

Do you think the club don't know that?

People keep saying this as if it's some sort of cutting edge insight. Every club wants their business done early. It very rarely happens as there's so much going on and so many deals which depend on this deal and that deal etc etc.

I guarantee you it won't be a case of the club not trying hard enough so I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

Truly impaired.
