It does seem to take forever and a day for Town to get a deal done, and even then there is this nagging feeling it won't happen. Did they all want to stay? I'm almost definitely sure that Axel wanted to go back nearer home and to the prem for starters. Burgess may have broadly been okay staying, but he didn't have long left contract wise did he? So got a last 3 year deal it would seem. Maybe Morsy wanted to stay and play most games, but once he knew otherwise a move to gold plate his pension abroad seems to work for all.

I did cover my post by saying if rumours are true. They were on here by what appear to be itk posters with good past knowledge.
I don't know what's going on of course. The Hackney thing absolutely baffles me. Private plane put on. Driver takes him to ground spends the day with us. Then suddenly rejects us.. just seems odd. If the heart and agent was all about prem sides. No needs to come down and spend the day with us.
Just a bit odd. And then cajuste appears to have wanted to return but took us 2 months to resolve it.
I'm being a patient fella this summer. But that's not to say I don't find this whole window extremely odd. | |

Almost as if it's not like Football Manager. But it's a complex thing involving lawyers and lots of future variables.
If it's a loan with obligation to buy then there needs to be conversations about the contract now, and what that looks like with the parent club, *and* the promotion contract with the player.
If he's currently on big numbers - and I've seen reports of everything between £39k and £90k - that needs to be agreed and signed now. On top of that I'm sure there's all kinds of things related to bonuses, image rights, etc, just ask very complex. [Post edited 9 Aug 23:18]

But looking around various clubs their transfers done appear to take a while to come to fruition and looking at other previous relegated clubs who had a big turnover of players their transfers too didn't seem to drag on. ( esp and even more so when we have pretty much been relegated since March)
Plus. Terms are agreed before medicals... so what's the hold up if he's had his medical if theirs no medical issue.. that's why it's odd with the akpom one specifically.

Medicals don’t normally happen until the contracts are agreed in principle. The devil can be in the detail though, and football contracts are becoming ever more complex (convoluted).

I don't see it as a case of who we could have signed since march, but being down the line with options as MA mentioned along the way
Thing is, I get the whole bedsheet thing, this isnt footy manager etc. But there's definately no way KM is happy with the current situation, so imo if the manager is frustrated but can't really publically show it, why is it then wrong for a fanbase to discuss it's own frustrations about it all. Terms of the loan and obligation fee with Ajax would be agreed, hence them giving him permission to travel and undertake a medical.
The contract for when the obligation part of the deal will then take place with Akpom and his agent(s).
Contracts aren’t just about agreeing a wage. It’s agents fees, it’s image rights, its goal bonuses, appearance bonuses and just about any other bonus you can imagine (remember, Ashton said he had a player specifically ask for Ed Sheeran tickets as part of his contract).
And just because teams seemingly get deals over the line in a day or 2 doesn’t mean to say they haven’t been working on them for weeks on end. |  |

Medical did actually throw something out that we wanted to mitigate which required further post fact negotiations

ITFC has not been keen to look past this season but the compatible deal required us to consider a promotion obligation therefore long term is off the table for us but how best to incentivise Akpom in the event that we are promoted ie your own players access a promotion bonus but what about a loan that you don’t own who is already effectively on top dollar then you want to start dealing with relegation clauses blar blar blar
Then suddenly you end up negotiating a £16m obligation for an unknown recent Spainish U21 and that becomes a distraction | |

What you say is a logical interpretation but there are other ways of looking at it. We are all speculating based on limited knowledge which is of course what fans do.
Taking a post by Rommers at face value Hackney was happy with us but not sure about transferring at another club in the championship. Perhaps he travelled to have a look and a discussion to help make up his mind? Ultimately he decided to stay at Boro, at least for now.
Did Cajuste want to join 2 months ago or is what he said just usual PR now he’s here?

That sounds like a reasonable assumption, it could be what the 'who blinks first' situation is for Ashton.
Also, don't expect an announcement on a Sunday...and don't expect deals with Ajax to be done in a Flash.
