Putting my tin hat on 15:03 - Aug 17 with 776 views | Garv | Must admit I'm surprised to see so much positivity around Philogene. I've been highly critical so maybe I automatically give him a hard time, and I won't argue if people think he did well, but what did he do of note in an attacking sense? No problem with his worth rate and he won't the ball well on a few occasions, but I just don't see any conviction when he's in the final third. Clarke was more involved for me, and he still needs a lot of work himself. Still very much a team coming together. Szmodics is an obvious goal threat but we function better with Chaplin.

His first touch and ball control is excellent. Saints tries to rattle him with a referee who struggled to control the first half. His movement his good and he links well with Davis. He’ll come good for sure.

Putting my tin hat on on 15:06 - Aug 17 with 712 views | IPS_wich | I desperately want Clarke to be a success but today like last week, I thought he did nothing. Philogene at least put himself about and got involved but he looked rusty, perhaps to be expected after not playing a competitive match for several months..
Putting my tin hat on on 15:08 - Aug 17 with 653 views | GreenEye | He played well in front of Leif. It looked a better left wing set up.
Putting my tin hat on on 15:10 - Aug 17 with 594 views | GeoffSentence | He had his moments but overall I felt he slowed things down too much. He preferred to put his foot on the ball and wait rather than carry it.

Putting my tin hat on on 15:11 - Aug 17 with 557 views | FrimleyBlue | Imo southamton did well covering philogene with two players quite often. One close and one covering . It was interesting they allowed clarke space but philogene not so much. Philogene works better with a running partner. Imo davis wasn't as advanced today as historically which didn't help philogene. But then for me that's KM finally learned you can't simply play Davie high just because we are at home. What philogene does as an attacker is known. What we saw today which was brilliant to see what his defending, determination and bottle..

I also thought Philogene put some decent balls into the box. Clarke was instrumental in us scoring. None of our players had impressively good matches hence why we drew at home. That has to be balanced against the fact we were up against a strong Southampton side who haven't sold any players yet. The referee's lenience on their physicality coupled with his booking Matusiwa and Taylor at the first time they did anything worthy of a booking also made it trickier for us. Probably Johnson is the only player who could claim to have a particularly good game.

Putting my tin hat on on 16:08 - Aug 17 with 347 views | FlittonBlue | Philogene was right in front of me in the first half and the number of times he had a half yard on the right back but Leif (or others) didnt play the ball was quite frustrating (to me and him). A good run of games, a couple of performances away from being a huge favourite and all the chuntering and moaning left over from the transfer sage will have gone Back him - if we go up he will have been a huge part of it imho
Putting my tin hat on on 16:22 - Aug 17 with 277 views | textbackup | I’m horrible, and typically moany. BUT, if JP sticks in a work rate and ball nicking like that. I’m happy. Flair is his bread and butter. He reminds me of Omari at the start.

Ha trust you to pick out something. I wasn't being critical it was more that as I said earlier we look better defensively and part of that for me was we didn't leave davis high and wide despite us being at home which we have done in previous seasons.

Putting my tin hat on on 16:52 - Aug 17 with 121 views | Churchman | I thought he had a good game. Highly skilled, Southampton had to watch him the whole time. Clarke wasn’t too bad either. Good control, didn’t give the ball away too often. I do wish when he breaks on goal he would be more confident and really drive into the opposition box. He had a good opportunity first half and clipped a decent ball across but I wish he’d carried it further. These two players will remain top of the dormant organ brigade’s hate list and they may yet be driven out Muric style, but I hope not. They’re very good players - far better than most in the Championship as they proved the year before last. Controversially I think Muric is a better keeper than Palmer, who doesn’t convince me. Looks weak - but he’s good enough for the Championship. Leave him in. The defence is fine so leave that alone too. Hirst is a good player, Sammy S is busy and I think no5 Matusiwa will be a good player for us when he settles in. Midfield is a problem still. We started well, good tempo, forcing Southampton into playing a way they didn’t want to. Then as usual fell away handing the initiative to a shell shocked opposition. Criticise the goal conceded all you want, but it was coming. We’d surrendered the middle of the pitch and played like the away team. We got a deserved draw, but I thought Southampton were vulnerable. The crowd were good and patient. It was a lovely day and an interesting game. We are a long way from a promotion team. Mid table at the moment, not least because there’s no goals in us or control. But contradicting that, the signs are there and I’m confident we will improve. Promising. It won’t take too much for us to be a steamroller of a team at that level but we do need another midfielder and forward. COYB

Yup, this was right below me in the first half too, and you could see Philogene's frustration when Davis didn't play the ball to him. He's got the skill and the instinct to be really good, and with more time playing and training together, that is likely to be a very strong partnership.
