Does anyone have an idea what the state of play might be with him? From how I was reading the initial report it seemed quite likely a deal would get done and then no news at all for 4/5 days....not even on the message boards. It feels a few times this off season of a fairly concrete report to then seemingly be turned to dust quite quickly.
I know the Ipswich way is to suddenly announce deals which is a positive but just wondering if people are expecting this to be a deal that happens? [Post edited 19 Aug 10:55]

You'd imagine this is the sort of deal the club would be desperate to keep quiet. If we're trying to steal a march on clubs both domestically and regionally, then you want to create an environment which doesn't put other clubs on red alert that a talented youngster is a) up for moving b) the fee the selling club would accept and c) information on the interested parties. Even though the Danish reporter initially broke this last week, there's surely a world where the club turns to the local journos and says 'not this one quite yet chaps, we need it to progress before releasing details'.

I just think in this day and age nothing is a secret in football. His agent will have worked all possible markets to try and smoke out genuine interest and to find the best move for him at this stage. A club isn't suddenly going to come in for him because they've seen the EADT have reported it.
I'd imagine it was Akpom's agent that made us aware he was available rather than Ashton reading the SSN rolling feed saying he was off to Birmingham for a medical. | | | |

We are in the world you mention. Seems pretty clear that the club can call in favours from the locals to not run stories they want to keep quiet, presumably in exchange for the occasional inside briefing and exclusive.

Maybe it’s just me, but in this day and age of social media, Romano, Plettenburgs etc, how on earth do clubs ever think they’re going to keep all transfers top secret? It’s ridiculous in my opinion, and this notion that Ashton blames supporters that news gets out grinds my gears when he’s happy to pay the likes of Romano to announce transfers for us. It’s ludicrous and just outright stupid in my opinion.
What’s Ashton going to do? Make a call to the journo from Denmark/Norway who broke the news over the weekend and suggest he never reports on us again.
