Football shirts at festivals… 21:17 - Aug 19 with 1815 viewsITFC_Forever

Something I like to do on my travels as a football fan is keep a count of the number of fans of different clubs I see…. It can be a shirt, jumper, tattoo, or some other way of identifying who they support, such as in conversation.

This weekend (last? The one just gone) I was at Beautiful Days in Devon…. I wore a couple of retro tops on the Thursday evening and Saturday, so that naturally helped the our score (as it prompted several Blue Armys / Uppa Towens etc), as well as our “friends” in Norfolk.

Here’s the league table from the weekend:

Ipswich Town 16
Arsenal 8
Burnley 6
Liverpool 6
Man United 6
Norwich City 4
Oxford United 4
Birmingham City 3
Leeds United 3
West Brom 3
Manchester City 2
Newcastle United 2
Plymouth Argyle 2
Reading 2
Sheffield Wednesday 2
Tottenham Hotspur 2
Watford 2
Wolves 2
Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Bristol City 1
Bristol Rovers 1
Crystal Palace 1
Exeter City 1
Hull City 1
Leicester City 1
Morecambe 1
Nottm Forest 1
Portsmouth 1
Southampton 1
Swindon Town 1
West Ham 1

I saw a man wearing a Charlotte FC shirt at the Tendring Show last month. Very random.

Two of the budgies were in a group of three… the third one was a Southampton fan, so they ganged up on me.
Was all in good spirits though. Good vibes only at Beautiful Days.

I too would like to travel back to 1990. Genuinely think James are one of the most underrated bands of that era.

Not one single person not wearing an Inter Miami shirt with Messi on the back (more often a knock off version as well)?!

Not too many football shirts at Green Man at the weekend.

Did see one town shirt, though from a distance so couldn't do the obligatory 'uppa towen' to them.

Most numerous shirt was definitely Liverpool, on Friday when they were playing.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

….I was at a festival earlier in the summer and the Bohemians/Fontaines dc shirt was everywhere.

My missus was sporting her superb Margate FC/Libertines shirt at the said festival.

My Dad wore the orange away shirt on Saturday, and last seasons home shirt on the Sunday. I did put my old Fisons one on on Sunday morning, but realised straight away it was far too hot! We did have three Town flags flying at our camp. I did have a chat with the two Norwich fans with the Southampton fan, like you say, all very friendly.

What were your highlights?

I'm pretty sure that the Ed Sheeran factor skews these figures (this isn't a dig).

Beard Jnr bumped into a couple of lads in Ibiza wearing the pink & black shirts and greeted them with an "up the towen". Both were keen to point out that they had no football interest but were massive Ed fans.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

Green was (as it always is) amazing. It's a very similar feel to EOTR, albeit with more families, but not in a way that impacts on the fun!

Line up is always amazing, the site is stunning and, importantly, the sound is superb on all stages.

Lucan's cool.

Had a lovely weekend in Auxerre & Paris with him a few weeks back and he was on good form at the game Sunday.

Yes!! We spoke your Dad by the Big Top early-ish on the Saturday afternoon.

Levellers are always excellent, was also looking forward to Shed Seven and they didn’t disappoint - they were excellent too.

Rianne Downey was very, very good, you can see why Paul Heaton has got her involved.

New act we discovered late Friday night in the Bimble Inn were the Land of the Giants, a Cornish band and they were superb.

Honourable mentions also for the Sex Pistols, Mad Dog McRea, Mary Wallopers, Sleeper too.

Underwhelmed by the Bluetones…

Thought there was perhaps a bit too much loud shouty heavy rock / punk than there needed to be.

Ah yes, he was likely down at the Big Top for Rianne Downey!

Think I'd largely agree with your reviews, albeit, I'm always happy for a bit more loud/noisy/shouty.

Had a great time as always, been going since 2011, and will be back next year.
