There have been quite a few people recently who have moaned about this summer’s window being a “shambles” etc but, reading about today’s PL press conferences it appears there are plenty of managers disappointed with their summer’s business. Silva, Glasner and Howe in particular are not happy. We are not alone, and have actually made what could turn out to be very good signings.
Perhaps those complaining about Ashton should bear in mind how difficult transfer windows can be. They might also consider that efforts to sign players are not made at a time. |  | | |  |

Absolutely not a shambles. Slower than hoped yes. Different in places yes. I expect losing Burg and Tuanzebe and Morsy, then Townsend and H Clarke and later AAH have distracted and have required constant adjustments. You can’t dictate to other clubs when to release their players even if you have an acceptable deal, they land when they land as MA indicated earlier in the window. |  |

I still don't why many posters don't understand the dynamics - it's even been mentioned several times over the last 2 months.
When you're in the transfer market for better players, you're part of the 'domino effect'. Players need to be moving around for the 'biggest' teams before many other deals can be completed. If there is little movement for the bigger clubs, we'll struggle to close many of the deals we're working on. And much of the business gets compressed towards the end of the window. Which of course also adds jeopardy.

The thing is, by about March we were clearly stuck and knew we needed to strengthen striker and central midfield - and we still do.
It's not necessarily a shambles but if we're still short in those positions at the end of the window then we will have wasted a massive opportunity to go straight back up. We're well below where we need to be at the moment. |  |

Excluding Covid restrictions, our lowest league 1 attendances were 15,678 and 17,536. The remainder were over 18,000, some distance from around 14,000. [Post edited 22 Aug 18:55]

I think that is part of the problem though, that we've all known since March.
There was such a low chance of us getting a deal with anyone truly decent early on by being stuck in between with wanting players who are great for the championship and therefore potentially with a chance of a crack at the prem.
So everyone knowing since March just creates more and more anticipation and frustration, when the reality is there wasn't much chance it would be solved until the end of the window. |  | | |

Generally I've given up engaging with them because it wouldn't be great for my mental health. Not sure what they hope to achieve if they're real fans, other than letting off steam. Thing is if he hadn’t said we’d attack the market he would have got it too.
Anyone who has held a position of responsibility knows you have to be positive, then dig out all the mitigating circumstances as they crop up. You can only play the cards you are dealt. We have been rightly ambitious, but with that comes the risk of not getting what you want.

It's a little odd that your experience does not resonate with my own. Neither club's fans have that reputation amongst those I know and speak to. Which make me wonder, do you have a Spurs-supporting friend they all know as well as them all knowing you as a Town fan? |  |

I am being no means a ‘bedwetter’ but am a passionate fan and this summer I have checked more regularly than any other. Don’t know why exactly. Hackney situations being drawn out don’t help. | | | |
