We all loved that first season, but coming 2nd with the biggest budget is certainly not over-achievement.
The fact is, he's over-achieved, supremely impressively of course, in one season only.

Might be controversial but I thought we were ok, 99 out of 100 we don’t lose, and the majority we win. In complete control just lack cutting edge, I don’t think Taylor works - not creative enough, Clarke not looking himself at all, and Szmodics I’m not sure where he fits in.
But we looked so much better than Birmingham away. |  |

I don’t buy that. He transformed a team that looked very poor under Cook, so deserves credit for both of the promotions imo. Ultimately his time will be up, but he’s already made idiots out of impatient fans twice when we had blips. The hard part is knowing when it’s a blip or the start of something more worrying. I think we’re in blip still (probably). |  |

I agree with this up to the point about the blip. I can't help feeling McKenna has lost his way. He keeps faith with a system that is no longer working for the players he's brought in - Clarke and Szmodics still don't function fully within it - and keeps faith with a player like Greaves who keeps making errors. The system just doesn't get the best out of the players. | | | |

Personally, I find it rather irritating when I read comments that we’ve had 65+% possession of the ball, so what? It’s what you do it with it that matters and the influence in pitch areas that possession is having. We seem to keep the ball, for possession sake. Our passing is slow and predictable and over the last 3 matches we’ve created very few genuine scoring opportunities. Goals win games KM, if you don’t get efforts on target you don’t win matches and that’s the bottomline. We look toothless in that final third of the pitch. | |

I've seen a few people re-writing the achievement of promotion from League 1. It's out of order, and you're normally a fairly decent poster POB. |  |

Considering our financial advantage I'd say it matched expectations but little more than that. Look what Plymouth managed in comparison.
Obviously 2023/24 was superb, and well exceeded expectations. | |

IMO I think (and obviously hope) we will see a big improvement once the transfer window is closed and after the first International break.
Whilst today was frustrating and we looked toothless, I believe we have the players to mount a serious promotion challenge come the end of the season, however we havent won in 143 days now, and this must be addressed soon!
FTR - IF you are the "Supporter" that was shouting derogatory slurs at Jack Clarke from the moment the referee blew for kick off.....please dont come again. Yes he didnt have a good game today and clearly lacks confidence but the clue is in the word "supporter" - you are meant to SUPPORT your team regardless of how they are doing.
