Whether we sign anyone else or not, getting this one over the line is key. The loss of Hutchinson AND Broadhead has really undone us against teams like Preston that go into a low block, and in the team currently we don't have anyone who can unlock defences like that with guile and trickery.
The pass to set up the goal on this is ridiculous.

Yep. McKenna said he wanted more pace and 1v1 ability so we’ve signed a player who specialises in neither of those things. The signing baffles me if im honest.
I hope I'm proven wrong but I hate the signing of McAteer. I seriously hope I'm wrong but, as it stands, he doesn't seem to represent an upgrade on who was here before, he doesn't exactly represent pace or strength. He may have some skill but enough? People say in McKenna/Ashton in trust but they've hardly been great in the transfer market of late.
Fingers crossed he takes every one of these words and shoves them down my throat. But I don't see the logic behind it as it stands.

Yes,for the money we have spent there I find the signing very underwhelming. Hope I’m wrong but to me that money could have gone on someone way better. The guy from Stoke is ideal, why we didn’t try for him I don’t know. Probably costs more, but you get exactly what McKenna needed. Don’t think this signing gives him that.

I’m surprised by it, especially at the fee, time will tell if it works out.

Oh 100%. There is nothing I want more than Kasey to turn out to be really good and I will happily eat humble pie.
That being said, off the ball he might be great but on it im just not seeing the vision.

I didn't know much about him so didn't comment much in the transfer but having watched some videos and stuff he reminds me a bit of harness where he's not really good at any one thing but can be direct.
For me if it was league 1 it's a solid signing. But for top end of champ I don't see how he fits the profile.
I agree he'd be a great signing, but billing him as the answer to all our problems is a bit of a stretch. We'd be buying a young player with lots of potential, not a ready-made Championship promotion winner.
What concerns me more, is that despite spending £150m+ in the past year, we find ourselves with a worse set of centre forwards than we had in League One. I love Hirst, but we have absolutely nothing to back him up.

Spent £150m but got back £80m in transfered fees in return. With this window still open…

Clarke Philogene Sammy McAteer Akpom
I would say is a huge upgrade to our L1 team tbh
I think the statement was a worse set of centre forwards and that is probably fair. Unless Akpom is going to play as one, we have Hirst backed up by Al Hamadi and youth players. In that season we had Hirst, Ladapo, Jackson and Broadhead backed up by Ahadme and Tyreece John-Jules. Of course, Hirst only came in January and there is still time for us to improve our striking options but it has to be a concern that we are struggling to do so.

Broadhead was surely a winger and John-jules a 10.
That leaves Jackson and ladapo… both not both good enough to lead a championship side
Isn’t taking first risk on players exactly what Brighton have done successfully again and again? That’s what they are brilliant at.
Brighton were reputedly watching Mitoma play at university in Japan so it's definitely something for the long term. It would appear we have many amongst us who don't have the patience for that.
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I think both were able to play as centre forwards but tended to be used more as wide men. Jackson was used wide as well. Really that meant that at this stage we only really had Ladapo backed up by options who could play there. You could argue Szmodics and Akpom could be those options now.
I agree those were not good enough to lead the attack in a Championship promotion-chasing side but that is the point. We need more than just Hirst. We are certainly no better off currently. I would be very disappointed if we don't get at least one centre forward in (unless Akpom is going to be used as one).
