All quiet on Egeli front... 11:35 - Aug 28 with 8177 views | BlacknGoldnBlue | With the news of our Norfolk raid and now plundering the WBA defence some more, there hasn't been any more news on Egeli... I wonder if we're still persueing him or decided to invest the money in proven options? Is no news good news or are we about to get a triple reveal of signings today or tomorrow? It certainly isn't boring

All quiet on Egeli front... on 18:52 - Aug 28 by itfcsuth | I would imagine so, don’t think there is any room for more money to be spent. Done over £30m, which is a good chunk, plus we are needing to bridge the financial gap dropping back to the Championship. Can’t spend like you’re guranteed to get promoted again, because we look like a side far from guranteed at the moment. |
Sometimes you have to invest to reap the rewards. Who's to say Egeli costs us £17m but his goals and assists see us in the Premier League and he continues on that trajectory (that so many clubs have seen the potential for), he could keep us in Premier League or, resale, enable another rebuild after relegation. He's a full international that, by all accounts, top European clubs wanted but were put off by fee! I really hope we don't miss the opportunity and regret it... Of course, we may not sign him and in two years time he's still where he is!

That's the thing, 12M for McAteer and not sure he would be considered much more than a PL squad player. If we are chucking these fees around surely got to take a risk with a super high ceiling somewhere. Disappointed if we have pulled out without but commenting without knowing the in's and out's and full detail obviously. Just a lot of money in the EFL on true fees and not a tone abroad again, although more encouraging on that front with some movement. [Post edited 28 Aug 19:10]

All quiet on Egeli front... on 17:25 - Aug 28 by FrimleyBlue | Happy to waste funds on the leicester fella tho. |
Why do you call it a waste before he's barely played or we've seen how he'll be utilised? Bit unfair.
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

Azon being a straight loan means we're less committed after this season than we would have been. That probably frees up future expenditure for Walle Egeli - who presumably would be on a long term deal anyway.

Then what the player is expecting, feels like a lot of variables. I'm happy if we take the risk as the kid has a very upside but we're in a very different situation now back in the championship. It's clearly still a live deal as the club have been pretty transparent when it's not going to happen so far.

Am told still being discussed between the clubs. Pretty much where the player himself said things were earlier in the week. As per previous posts, think it's a case of Town pressing the button to do the deal if and when they've decided they want to do it.

Correct i do. I do however refrain from calling fellow posters pathetic for their opinions about the game we all love. Anyways. Let's enjoy this evening as its signing night it seems and look forward to the weekend. Much love. Frimmers

Indeed. I think the fee is probably the concern and how much he might play given the playefs already here.

This is exactly what I meant earlier about the leicester chap, it wasn't about the player himself i dont really know much about him, but Im suprised that we were happy to chuck the money at leicester for him whilst we have ogbene, clarke, philogene who can all play right, with burns back in 8 weeks, and we're concerned when it comes to an extremley hot prospect who is a bonus in not being a squad place and has potential to be developed, esp when we've sent 20 mill to sunderland for clarke.

Presumably as well how quick he can get up to speed in a more competitive/physical league? McK knows there is a lot of pressure on getting the team performing results wise asap especially with the investment being made. While we all crave for exciting signings, there are multiple factors no doubt McK is considering. Such as balance/harmony/impact across the squad. Perhaps he is thinking about the balance between youngsters versus narly experience which could be one reason for the Furlong signing to backup O'Shea. (all personal conjecture of course) Equally, maybe there are other irons in the fire as the saying goes and waiting to see what happens i.e. Hackney/Billings etc (yes I know they are a different position) In all walks of life there are lots of considerations when hiring.... few as publicly critiqued as in professional sport.
