Post window squad to January 07:29 - Aug 29 with 1002 views | Len_Brennan | Palmer, Walton, Button. Furlong, Johnson. O'Shea, Caceres. Greaves, Kipre. Davies, Young. Matusiwa, Humphreys? Cajuste, Nunez. McAteer, Egeli, Ogbene. Szmodics, Akpom, Chaplin. Philogene, J Clarke. Hirst, Azon, Al Hamadi. 25 man squad, with Egeli as an additional u21 player & Humphreys as the required homegrown player, presumably. Al Hamadi's injury preventing a move, so will be back on the bench by October. Very strong looking Championship squad, although no real cover for Matusiwa & question marks over the fitness levels of a few of them.

I’m just here to apply some common sense. Who in their right mind puts him on the bench? If I could get some reasoning as to how he is on there (if both STs are fit) then I’m happy to have a listen and I’m see if I’m wrong. But until then I’ll happily call out any bo11ock that sees him put in an ITFC squad.

First time I've heard McKenna called a bo11ock on here, considering he was in the first 2 squads of the season before he got injured; that's not very nice.

Not sure you’ve read the part where, twice, I’ve said if the other two strikers are fit there is no place in a match day squad for AAH. Surely that’s just completely obvious? It’s like saying you’d have Button on the bench if Palmer and Walton are fit

That's the full 25+ man squad there that I've tried to outline, not the match day 20, so calm yourself down before you give yourself another twisted scrotum. Al Hamadi got plenty of minutes last time we were in the Championship & even played Premier League football for us, while Ayinde was on the bench for the Southampton game last week, so circumstances can dictate selections that may not be our preference. My point, which I wrongly assumed would be clear to everyone, is that we probably can't sell or loan Ali now, due to his injury, so he'll stay with us until January. We're unlikely to sign another striker and/or leave him out of the registered squad as he'll be back fit in a few weeks, and available for selection. Hirst has had injury problems previously & Azon had issues with his medical, so there's every chance that Al Hamadi will be in a match day squad & be given game time this side of Christmas. Akpom can obviously play up front too, but was primarily bought to play as a #10. [Post edited 29 Aug 8:51]

In terms of squad strength, and I feel for him in terms of his career (although why did he sign that contract?), we'd be better off keeping Woolfenden as back up/the homegrown player, bringing someone else in in central midfield and letting Humphreys go out on loan for game time.

I don’t think Ali is in the 25 He’s behind Hirst, Azon, and Akpom in the pecking order and possibly others as well including the next Haaland. Really seems best for all he moves on. He’s one of the more obvious choices not to be in the 25.

We could deregister him, couldn’t we? Seems silly having him in the 25 man squad when we have Hirst, Azon then Akpom and SS.

Does anyone offer anything decent for an injured player? Unsure they would be the interest. Mutual agreement FC?

Post window squad to January on 09:24 - Aug 29 with 289 views | Mullet | Ali is likely to get mutual consent and allowed to go - if we really want to get some money for him we can loan with an option on favourable terms. He is going to be wanted by plenty of teams who saw him at Stoke either side of the Champ/League one relegation line after all. Not sure we will see Cacares now. Feels like they want to milk us to get him. I wouldn't be surprised to see a glut of last minute sales and loans obviously, which will be interesting. I wouldn;t be surprised to see a Prem club snap Johnson up either. Baggot getting 3 years suggests we hold some faith in him and he needs football so I hope he has a big season now. If he and Humphreys could go to the bottom end of the Champ and play regularly that would be ideal. Not sure Norwich need them though. As for Matusiwa cover, I think unless we add James to the mix and get rid of Taylor we will see different shapes and roles in midfield. We won't need to use him every game for 90 mins anyway at this level. Nunez can sit deep and be a playmaker for example. Egeli and McAteer can apparently play as emergency 9's and Szmodics has done it too, so as a third choice we should be ok if not ideal to get through seeing out a game or whatever. I think we're seeing a very Premier league feel to the squad depth in that, we have a lot more utility now. It's just a managerial gamble for McKenna if it leaves a huge gap somewhere.

Maybe someone will come in for him, on a loan with option deal, despite his injury & unavailability, but they would be sacrificing a spot in their own 25 in order to him it open for him to start playing in October. Fair enough, that's certainly possible. I can't see us just de-registering him & leaving him in limbo once recovered from injury after October, and to be honest, I wouldn't be happy with us as a club if we did it to a hard working player who seems like a decent guy.
